I must be getting old

I really think I’m getting old. While we were away, we ran out of instant coffee which is really the only coffee we like. I buy the large tins of our favourite brand as it’s cheaper that way.
So I bought a large tin in Mukinbudin and refilled the smaller glass jar. When I went to store the large tin in the storage tubs under the bed, I discovered I’d bought one from home and it was sitting under the bed waiting for me to find it. So now I have two big tins of coffee. I don’t think I’ll run out again for a while.
I’ll use the opportunity to add another photo from Westonia Museum. Do you remember the fancy money tills like the one on the right-hand side of the photo?

@Judyev I loved those old style stores. Everything in them was so special, or maybe that's just how I saw the world when I was little. I was always fascinated in large department stores by the suction pipe that sucked canisters of cash from the till desks up into the office. I think I've described them correctly! And cash registers were so intriguing back then. Today's stores are so boring and they don't make me feel special any more.

I can't tell you how many duplicates my husband had purchased over the years. I have a lot of new things in packages to sell.

@LindaOHio We have a friend who has a heap of DVDs and many of these are duplicates. I guess she just forgets what she has and what she hasn't.

@JudyEv My husband kept thinking he didn't have one of something and would go out and purchase it again. He has 3 copies of a movie he liked.

We all forget things sometimes, I think it's normal--especially when we have a lot to think about or to do. Hey, be glad you have extra coffee. The prices for coffee seem to go up every single week!

I do remember those cash registers. As far as the coffee goes, we all do things like that from time to time.

I guess I'm not the only one that forgets from time to time what they have and what they don't have.

Ah, the creeping embrace of forgetfulness seems to be winning the battle. On the bright side, at least you're now prepared for a caffeine-fueled apocalypse with enough coffee to last weeks, maybe months! I fear I might soon join the club of misplaced memories, as time appears to be racing against at this stage of life. Lucky for me, I have my wife to keep my scattered brain in check!

Oh, yes, those old old cash registers! (With the “no sale” sign that would pop up if you had to open the drawer for something.) I’ve never seen a telephone like the one on the wall, though!

I had to go back to look at the phone. I'm not sure if you're joking or not. I don't think there would have been one like that in the shop but it would have a telephone exchange, albeit a small one. This is a bigger one that was in the Wyalkatchem Museum.

@JudyEv — I’m used to what we call “switchboards,” but they were usually manned by operators. Never one that small and in a general store. Of course, in the middle of nowhere in the early days of telephone service, that actually would make perfect sense.

Not a memory for me but what I did love was that when I was still quite small we had grocery stores in the neighborhood with wood shavings on the floor and stuff like pickles in barrels, I could easily love doing shopping that way but then came the ultra modern supermarkets,

Nothing wrong with having an extra stock of something you like :) When I saw that picture, I was going to ask if the bank accepted payment in bananas!

I worked in a shoe store once in the 70's. They had a very ornate register that had been around since the previous century. It worked fine as well.

I have duplicates of a few things in my pantry now. As long as I don't keep opening new jars I'll be okay.

It is easily said age is just a number but it starts to bite after a certain number!
I am careful whenever I travel for days as forgetting even one item can become very troublesome.
Nowadays, it is all digital payments though we still have to hold on to our hard earned money.
The rifle may not help when digital fraudsters are on the prowl looking for easy prey.

Our water authority wants everyone to go to Direct Billing which gives them authority to take the money from your account quarterly. If you don't agree, then they charge a fee for paying online. We're fighting with them at the moment as we feel it's too easy for them to charge extra etc if we don't have some say in how we pay.
