How long do your phone calls go?

I talked to my 14 year old niece a long time today via FaceTime. She wants to come up and stay with me a few days, but I don’t think my sister wants her staying at my apartment complex. And my dad said he doesn’t have the energy for a teenager, so her sleeping over there isn’t a possibility. We’ll see what happens. After her early morning phone call, my sister called me again, and talked for about an hour. I’m not accustomed to talking on the phone that long. I remember talking to someone once (a former friend), for about an hour, and by the end of the call she had me so stressed out I ended up with a migraine!

I talk to my mom on calls pretty regularly, about an hour at a time. Other people, not as much.

I used to love talking to my late mom. We could chat for a long time without meaning to.

@AmbiePam yeah, time gets away (in the best way) my mom has several health problems these days,so I never take a conversation with her for granted. It's always precious time, but especially when there's no telling how much is left.

I have no phone and only a few to call if I did, The only thing I regret is that some of the surveys that pay quikcly or give gift cards require phones to communicate. Maybe in the new year I will get one only for calling and texting,

Not usually long. I did talk about a half hour with sis the other day though, but that is unusual for her. I think she is probably a bit worried about me.

I don't chat to anyone much. If a call goes on for a whiile, I find myself getting up and doing other things at the same time. Maybe tidying up a bit and putting things away.

Although The Mister phones me several times a day ….he works away Monday to Friday ….sometimes each call is a few minutes and other times it can be around an hour. The only other person I talk to at length is my Mom. With everyone else it’s texting all the way.

I talk to my bestie a lot, usually for 30 minutes or so. She calls to check on us all the time. Another friend calls about once a week, and she talks non-stop for an hour at a time. Usually late evening, so I carry the phone around and do what I have to do while she talks. She is having a hard time caring for her 92 year old mother with Dementia, so the least I can do is to be there for her....and I know you more than understand how stressful that can be.

@AmbiePam Truthfully, she basically says the same thing every week. Her mother is very well off financially. She didn't want to go to a nursing home (in her few lucid moments, she has repeatedly said this) so she is still in her home and has 24 hour caregivers. But there is still a lot for my friend to do, she said she thought she would have a bit more spare time when they went the caregiver route, but her mother isn't well at all, and friend is a nurse. So she is over there a good portion of each day. Friend can't lift her mother, as she isn't well herself, and her mother weighs more than she does. Plus the rambling is stressful, she asks friend every day ''Now what's your name again?'' and sometimes, friend says she can't help but get tears, as most days her mother doesn't remember her name. I know you went through this, so I hope me talking about it here doesn't upset you. I just can't even imagine how hard of a time that must have been for you and for your family.

@ambiepam I only use the phone if I have to. Hate speaking on the thing. Rarely do it except with my two brothers. Those conversations are stress free thankfully and can be 30 minutes or more every three months or so.

I'm not much of a phone talker and even less now that I have such trouble hearing. If your niece can't come for a visit, maybe FaceTime will be good again.
