1958 - The Blob What Halloween movie list would be complete without the 1958 pop culture classic, The Blob? The Blob is a science fiction horror film directed by Irvin S. Yeaworth, Jr. and is based on an idea by Irving H. Millgate. The story takes place in a small Pennsylvania town. Steve Andrews (Steve McQueen) and his girlfriend Jane Martin (Aneta Corsaut) are on lover's lane when they see a meteorite crash off in the distance. Steve goes to look for it; but an old man living nearby, Barney (Olin Howland) finds it first. He pokes it with a stick; and it breaks open. A red, gelatinous Blob attaches itself to his arm. He runs out into the road and almost gets hit by Steve's car. They take him to Dr. Hallen who decides that the arm must be amputated. Before he can do that, the Blob consumes Barney, the nurse and finally the doctor. The Blob grows larger with every person that it absorbs. Steve and Jane go to the police; but when the police inspect the doctor's office, they can find no evidence to support the couple's claims. Steve and Jane are sent home...The Blob continues to ravage the town. I love this campy, classic movie. When The Blob enters the movie theater, note the faces of the "teenagers" streaming out...many are laughing. Photo Credit: Mine A1

Yeah, it was bad…but a good bad. Or one of those “so bad it’s good” kinds of camp. A movie they’d riff on MST3K but that you’d enjoy while they were doing it (as opposed to The Mole People, which is unwatchable without the constant jokes about John Agar (primarily) and Hugh Beaumont.

@LindaOHio — now THAT I’d watch. Robert Klein made a joke about the really bad horror movies with the giant spiders and you could see the finger pushing the toy spider.

Remember the movie, I think it was called the Killer Shrews, in which they used dachshunds for the shrews with costumes on of course.

Great. I saw this listed on a YT video yesterday evening. I kind of recall this movie. I watched it again a couple of years ago. Something about the silly tech back then that endears these movies to me. Campy for sure.
