1968 - Night of the Living Dead
Night of the Living Dead is a zombie horror film directed by George A. Romero and written by Romero and John Russo. Filmed with a low budget and cast unknowns, it did extremely well at the box office and spawned 5 sequels, all directed by Romero.
Barbara and Johnny, sister and brother, drive to a cemetery in rural Pennsylvania to visit their father's grave. A man in a tattered suit kills Johnny and attacks Barbara. Barbara runs to a nearby farmhouse. Zombies begin to gather just as Ben, a stranger, arrives. Barbara and Ben enter the farmhouse, Ben begins to board up the windows and doors and finds a rifle. In the meantime, other people take shelter in the cellar.
The group learns through TV and radio broadcasts that the zombies can be killed by a heavy blow to the head, a bullet to the brain or by being burned.
This movie is full of tension, unexpected twists and a surprise ending. WARNING: There is explicit violence and gore.

It's in black and white, so maybe not quite as yucky, but yeah, it's pretty graphic. I'm usually pretty unimpressed by horror movies, especially old ones, but this was extremely effective at delivering the heebie-jeebies.

It is full of tension. I was rather disappointed as I am with many horror movies. The twists and added surprise endings are always nice.

@LindaOHio - I downloaded it yesterday, but I have not yet watched. Yesterday evening I watched "Population "436 " it's a mystery-horror film that is not too bad.

@LindaOHio Not really into zombie movies...except for Zombieland but that is more of a comedy.

The extent of my interest in zombies is the “Plants vs. Zombies” game.

I'm pretty sure I saw that one when it was released but haven't seen it since. I've totally outgrown my love of horror movies as I've gotten older.
