My Own Mac and Cheese

I get mac and cheese really cheap at Ruler. Just 49 cents a box. But I have recently resorted to just going back to making my own. To me it's not that much more expensive, and it's cheesier. So, that's my side for tonight's dinner. 2 cups of macaroni noodles, a little "Velveeta" cheese with some butter and milk, and voila.... It should be done and very good eats. I put Velveeta in parathesis because I am using Kroger brand cheese, which is just as good, but just a bit cheaper. How do you make your mac and cheese?

I don't make it as Vince doesn't like cheese. I sometimes buy an instant meal and have it that way.

Gosh. I never knew people existed on the planet who didn't like cheese. I guess it's possible. lol

@porwest He can eat it cooked if it's not the main ingredient but other cheeses he can't handle. I found it really surprising too.

@JudyEv We use a lot of cheese around here. In salads, on top of casseroles, in soups, on sandwiches...but if one doesn't like it, they don't like it, and I guess it is what it is.

I make mine with the powder cheese that comes with it & put milk & butter in it, BUT I heat the milk & butter up 1st then pour it over the powered cheese & it's nice & cheesy.

That's how I do it too when I make it from the box. Except I just add the milk and butter in with the noodles before adding the powdered cheese. I love mac and cheese in all ways it can be made, though.

I don't have a set way to make it, just whatever appeals at the time.

There are definitely many ways to make it, and even change it up. Mac and cheese is one of my favorite sides.

We make something similar, with real cheese (usually provolone, or cheddar), it's not expensive and easy to make.

I have done it with real cheese too, and it comes out very, very good. I like to go easy on the budget as much as I can, and so long as it still tastes good, cutting a few corners is fine with me. lol

@porwest - I do not like to waste money, but I do not buy fake cheese, I checked the price, the real unbranded provolone here costs the same as Velveeta.

@LadyDuck We all have our "thing" for which we will allow no compromise. I can't say I don't have a couple of my own as well.

Don't remember the last time I made mac-n-cheese. I just usually boil pasta and add ketchup to it and then some shredded cheese. But I love mac-n-cheese. I have ordered it at restaurants before.

I have never added ketchup. I can't imagine it's bad. It just wouldn't be mac and cheese to me.
