Probably Running to Schnuck's Today

Around here, Schnuck's is the "main" grocery store in town. Some time ago others like Kroger and Shop 'N Save were in the area, but they have since left. The only other "major" grocery store in town is Dierberg's, but I never go in there. Their prices are through the roof.
I hardly ever am in Schnuck's either because 9 times out of 10 their prices are just way too high compared to Ruler, Aldi and Walmart.
There are Save-a-Lot's around. But they're complete dumps.
But every once in a while, Schnuck's does have a deal, and I always peruse their weekly ads. This week they have pork steaks on sale for $1.79 per pound, which is a deal considering the cheapest are $2.24 at Walmart (up from $1.94), and I need some some so...
They also have, at times, either Hatfield or Smithfield marinated pork loins on sale for $5 each, which is good compared to from $6.99-$8 anywhere else. So, I will likely get 3 and freeze them.
They also have Idaho Russet potatoes in 5 pound bags at 2 for $5, which is pretty good currently, so I will probably get 10 pounds of potatoes.
While I am there, if I decide to go, I will also check their ground beef section since sometimes they do run a manager's special, and I haven't been buying any lately because of the prices.
We'll see.

@LadyDuck I don't go to a specific place, necessarily, for bargains. I shop entirely by price, and I know my prices, so I also know who has the best deal wherever I go. I have never found a single store that had the best price on everything.

@xstitcher When we lived in San Diego, the big chain out there was Vons.

those Hatfield pork tenderloins are delicious. I always have one in the freezer and my favorite is the marinated brown sugar one.
I find the same thing here with supermarkets. One is on one side of town and is way expensive and the other on the other side is decent but not really many bargains. I only shop at the more expensive one when they have good sales that I can't pass up.

@porwest Same, I prefer KFC or Popeyes. The name itself threw me off, thought it was a strip club "Bojangles" lol

@BACONSTRIPSXXX lol. I guess there could be a strip club called that. I always think of the song. As for chicken, I prefer Lee's Famous Recipe with Popeye's being a close second.

You’re a smart shopper! I sometimes wonder if something is greatly reduced in price if that means the product is no longer good.

@porwest my Russian store sometimes has a label that says “reduced for quickly sale”. I am hesitant to buy that.

@lovebuglena You're fine to buy anything that says that so long as you use it quickly or freeze it. The dates put on items are not expiration dates. They are sell by dates, and things will last several days or weeks past the sell by date depending on what it is and how it is packaged.
