Lovely Bird of Paradise

Very often when this very lovely and unusual flower gets mentioned, there are those who first think of a bird, not a flower. It is an exotic plant that is native to South Africa and when blooming resembles a bird. One of the countries where you can find this flower growing in Australia. These flowers are also referred to as "crape flowers," and they symbolize paradise itself. Their blooming period is from May through September. Each flower on this plant has three upright, orange sepals and three horizontal, blue, inner sepals. It is adorned with long, green leaves. They grow well outdoors, craving plenty of sunshine. Who has heard of or seen this flower?

My first wife and I had a couple of plants of that growing at our second house. We didn't take any of the plants we had there when we moved.

@RasmaSandra I had to do that when we moved from our last house into this one. We have less than half the space here that we had in that house. I had to pick and choose what plants I wanted to bring with me.

@DaddyEv that is a shame. When my mom moved to Latvia she has such a green thmb for houseplants it was so sad giving them all away,

@RasmaSandra - There were many plants in the gardens facing the Monte Carlo Casino. Those flowers are called Sterlizia there.

@RasmaSandra Darn it. I was in Sydney, but I was so focused on the Olympics and how hot it was I didn’t really take note of the flowers.

Yes, this one looks more like a Bird than a Flower. Looking in person at this flower would be quite enjoyable.

It is a common plant here. Actually I just saw them in the plaza nearby our home.

Yes, the branches look like birds somewhat. Paradise itself. What a nice thought.

You don't have any of those beauties in sunny Florida? I think of Florida as almost the tropics.
