I went through the kitchen cabinets for about an hour to find items to donate. The curse of loving to try new recipes and living alone means that the cabinets, fridge, and freezer are always overflowing. I know--it is a nice problem to have. I went through to see what I have too much of and quickly learned that I don't need to buy any more cans of chick peas, quinoa, diced tomatoes, or crushed tomatoes for awhile. I went through the spice cabinet. I'm always a sucker for a Penzey's special and had many sample bags that they include in orders. I've seen a post on FB a few times saying that food banks don't need pasta and red sauce but families feel special when they receive spices. I don't have any boxed cake mix or pre-made frosting but those are appreciated too. There are other things that I have a lot of (brown sugar, flour, yeast, cocoa powder, rice, tuna, etcc.) but those are things that I use regularly so if I donated them I'd just wind up having to buy them again. Still I don't feel selfish because the bag is so heavy I'm afraid it will break carrying it down to the car.
