My Meds

I called the pharmacy this morning and was told that they issued partial prescriptions because they were trying to line all my meds up so they could be delivered on the same day... When I pointed out that I ran out last month several days early, the pharmacist had to check their records and then told me if I ever run out, to contact them immediately. My blood pressure meds all say to take "as needed" which was fine when I still had a working blood pressure monitor but, my monitor died several months ago. My doctor knows that but the pharmacy didn't. With the working blood pressure monitor, I was taking 4 to 5 blood pressure pills a week, not 14 of them. So, of course I ran out. (When the monitor died, my doctor told me to just take them twice a day until I could get a new monitor.) So, at least now we know.

Still, it’d be nice if they kept you in the loop. Did they charge you less for fewer pills? (Of course not….)

I don't know since Medicaid pays for them and we don't get anything from Medicaid that tells us that.

@celticeagle We like this pharmacy much better than the Walmart pharmacy. These people will deliver our meds where Walmart wouldn't. Walmart can't deliver shots and I have a shot once a week plus the epi-pens that Walmart won't deliver. (Pretty just started getting a weekly diabetes shot and a weekly shot for anxiety and depression.) As soon as I can, I want to pay them back for the blood pressure monitor. I should be able to do that if/when I start getting Social Security.

The lady who owns the pharmacy just called and told me that they were donating a new blood pressure monitor to me and would bring it over one day this week. She said it was in thanks for switching to them over Walmart. I'm flabbergasted but thanked her heartily!

Does your favorite pharmacy not have a BP machine available for people to check theirr own BP?

@BarBaraPrz The pharmacy we use now is also two miles away through the city but I don't go there. They deliver my meds. I could call my brother but he gets cranky if I need rides when there's nothing wrong with my car.

Walmart does but how do I get there? Most of the time I can't see to drive and Pretty can't drive. It's a two mile walk from our house on the highway.

Thanks. The pharmacy owner called a little while ago and said they were going to donate a blood pressure monitor to me and they'd bring it over later this week. That is really nice of her!

I wonder if there is a way to get you a blood pressure monitor. You ran out of more than that, though, didn't you?

Yes, I ran out of several of my meds. I know now to let them know if I don't have enough to reach the next supply. The owner of the pharmacy called today and said they were going to donate a blood pressure monitor to me and would deliver it one day this week.

I saw in your comments that they will be sending over a monitor to you - that's great! So hopefully it all works out better in taking the meds - you won't have to take as much!

I take a water pill for my BP. I had used my uncle's BP monitor, but the cuff was too large for me. My mother got me another BP monitor that has a smaller cuff. I check it on the weekends now.

I take a water pill, too. But my BP monito popped a hole in the cuff so it doesn't work anymore.

We can't get Vince's pills too far in advance which can be a hassle when we want to go away for a few days/weeks.

I'm sorry that happens. They give me one month's supply and that's it. If we go on a trip at the wrong time, i can't get extra pills, either.

What do they mean by that? They would be sending the next month's meds + 3 days meds together?

No, if I run out of my blood pressure meds, they would send enough to finish out the month. And then issue the next month's meds on time. It wouldn't do me any good if they bring me the next month's meds at the same time. I'd still miss those last few days taking the important meds.
