Overcharged for juice

I love Martinelli’s apple juice. It’s 100% (pasteurized) juice. No concentrate. Taste is delicious, especially when out of the fridge. I usually get the 10 fl. oz. bottle. My local Russian store sells it for $1.99, which is cheaper than in other places I’ve seen it. Sometimes if it’s on sale it’s $1.49. That was the case yesterday. It was $1.49 with the store card, which I gave the cashier. Yet somehow the sale price didn’t show up on the receipt. I only noticed that after I left the store and checked the receipt. I would’ve have bought it if it hadn’t been on sale anyway but why should I pay full price when it’s on sale? That would be a stupid thing to do. Thankfully I was by the store still so went back inside to get my refund. The cashier ended up having to call the manager. He had to return the juice and then scan it again so I can get refunded 50¢. Since I had purchased it with a credit card I had to scan my credit card to get the refund go back to my card. Wish I had paid more attention to the screen when the cashier was scanning my items. I’d have avoided having to do the refund. But I’m just glad to get my 50¢ back.

It seems like the store you shop at makes a lot of errors. I always look closely at my receipts (and at the register as the items are scanning), and I can't even remember the last time there was an error. I shop at Publix, and their policy is that if anything rings up incorrectly, you get the item for free. So I definitely keep an eye out for mistakes!

@lovebuglena The only time I can think of where I am undercharged is when I buy organic bananas, The cashiers always seem to ring them up as regular bananas, which are much cheaper. And, like you said, who is going to speak up and say something about being undercharged? lol

They also made another mistake yesterday. It was in my favor though so I said nothing. Would there be any person that would say “hey, you undercharged me…”?

I always look at the screen usually. But if a cashier (at any store) scans things like a speeding bullet hard to keep up. And sometimes I can’t see clearly if screen far away from me.

That's why it's important to be sure and think about checking things if you can.

I usually check the screen. I didn’t notice anything wrong.

@lovebuglena Sometimes if a if it's not automatic, the screen might not show it correctly.

@kaylachan The guy scanned my store card a few times. Maybe it didn’t work.

It would be so easy just to say 'forget it' but it's the principle. Why should you pay full price when you needn't?

Yeah. If I had realized the mistake when I got home I probably wouldn’t have gone back to the store. But if I was still there I wanted the money back.

I'm sorry you had to go through all of that for 50 cents.

Yeah. But 50¢ is money so why throw it away for no reason.

My neighbor likes that juice. She gets it at Dollar Tree for $1.25

@lovebuglena She says she gets it at our local Dollar Tree all the time, of course I have no idea if it's available at one of yours, but it might be worth checking out. If you find it at one, they will even order you a case of it if you want them to.
