So frustrated with the Amazon Dot

My in-laws (or ex-inlaws if you want to get technical) sent us an Amazon Echo speaker back when that was a new thing. Loved it for playing my music playlist and Pandora. I left it at the house when I moved out since it was my ex's parents who sent it.
My sister bought me an Amazon Dot which is like the same thing and could sync with my Apple Music playlist to listen to music. I'm not one of those people who is always asking Alexa or Siri to do stuff. Just play my music. A month or so ago it wouldn't connect to my phone which I thought was nuts after years of it doing so. I tried everything. My tech-savvy ex was here and he couldn't figure it out. Normally I'd say if he can't do it it can't be done but it. had. been. working. for. years. on the hotspot. I threw out the one I had thinking maybe it was just broken and ordered a new one.
Nope the new one won't work on it either. Just overnight it was like a flip switched. I've spent weeks trying to troubleshoot this. Not even going to ask him to try to fix it again since he couldn't the first time and he gets nasty when he is frustrated. I'm still going to keep trying though. There's got to be a way to get this stupid thing connected again. I am not going to pay for internet access just to get it playing music. I'm on my ex's internet plan so internet access for the laptop and my smart TV are free for me.

I would get in touch with Amazon help rather than spend hours troubleshooting. It might be a bug they are working on a fix for?
Until then you’ll have to listen to @FourWalls daily musical delights

I never tried it, but just go through Pandora and run your phone or computer on some speakers, sounds easier than that. Its how my friend and I used to do it. My house is not allowed to have loud noises so laptop is all I do. I hate phones, , I despise phones, but corporate world makes me have one so I keep it as far as away from me till I need it.
Laptop, I play the music and its quiet and everyone leaves me alone.
If its for travel, then maybe that would make sense.

@NJChicaa I see, I believe you can still do that with phones, but yeah some portable speakers, but I get why people do that because its more work where Dot and those type of things are supposed to be just play and go.
Look to see if Bose, has something like that. To me they best sound quality anyway and I bet they would do it right if they have something like that.

“We want you to buy a new one, so this one won’t work anymore until you do!”
