Another week, another instrumental! And, like the Billy Joel song I used a couple of days ago, this time around we have a band known for singing, so their appearance on a list of songs with no singing might surprise some. Then again, @rebelann is always up for a tune by these guys, so I hope the rest of you are, too!
Side o’ the Road - Creedence Clearwater Revival
The other day, a prompt in a music group I belong to on Facebook asked for someone who “you” think is an underrated guitarist. While I used Leo Kottke, there are a ton of guitarists in well-known rock bands who could be considered “underrated.” Let’s face it, when it comes to talking about guitarists in rock and roll, everyone mentions Hendrix, Page, Van Halen, Townshend, Angus Young, Gilmour, Brian May, and a few other “usual suspects.” You hardly ever see someone like Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham on that list. Buckingham is so good that, when Stevie Nicks fired him from Fleetwood Mac, they had to hire two guitarists to replace him!!!
John Fogerty is another person who could easily fall in the “underrated” category. He was the heart and soul of CCR: the singer, the songwriter, and the guitarist. Those guitar parts he gave us in CCR range from country to hard rock and just about everything in between. Here he drops a little Chicago blues feel on us toward the end of the masterpiece album that gave us hits “Fortunate Son” and “Down on the Corner.”
Unless you have the album and/or are a big CCR fan you’ve probably never heard this. I hope you enjoy a little of Fogerty showing his versatility.

There’s another one coming up soon…oh, and a lot of country and bluegrass. Put in your earplugs.

Dude, it’s the blues. The blues is repetitive: play your 7th chords and complain.

In my opinion C C R is one of the most underrated musical bands of all time.

This was from Willy and the Poor Boys album. My sister played this album so much I think she wore it out. So yes, I think I can still recall every single word of every song! Thanks for the memory, dear.

Except for this one and "Poorboy Shuffle," 'cause they didn't have words.
Glad you remember it so fondly.

I pretty much can’t keep exactly what songs were on what, because for a solid year she played their music pretty much nonstop!

There are two instrumentals on that album. The other one has a shade of country, so I avoided it to keep everyone from having a headache.
