At short notice, I rang my cousin to ask if we could take our Bavarian visitors to their farm, which they purchased from my father. They were in Tasmania but, to cut a long story short, they were happy for us to visit and to take our guests on a tour.
We were also asked to collect the eggs and fill the garden ponds. They don’t have many hens but there were 14 eggs for us to collect all in the one nest. The reddish-brown chooks (chickens) are Isa Brown’s and very quiet, as you can see. They make ideal hens for families as they are good layers and make great pets.

Ten dollars for a dozen eggs. No wonder you are excited to get some free ones, good grief! That's a lot.

@MarieCoyle I know it is a lot more than you pay over there but comparing prices between countries doesn't really work. I mostly pay about $6 but that's still probably three times when you have to pay.

It’s great if they can afford to keep chickens around their home. Of course, one downside to having them is dealing with the smell and the noise they can create. Still, it’s nice to have them, as they provide food for us—not just fresh eggs, but meat as well.

I was very pleased to get them. We've used them for scrambled eggs since.

The hens that made the eggs on this post are wonderful.

Free fresh eggs, can't beat that. If I lived somewhere that I could have chickens, I would be tempted!!
