Apple Crumb Pie

United States

Happy Wednesday Everyone! it's a rainy start to this day so my plans to go out and run a few errands have changed and I'll do it tomorrow. I hate having to get in and out of the car when it's raining so nothing I have to do is urgent and can wait another day. My older daughter hosts Thanksgiving and we were talking about desserts (mainly pie). Half of the family likes pie while the other half doesn't care for it. The past few years my daughter bought a few pies and baked other desserts for the non pie lovers. The store bought pie were okay but nothing spectacular. So, this year I decided to make an apple crumb pie. I have to admit I haven't baked a pie in awhile. But, I'm going to use my moms recipe for pie crust and even if it's only half as close to how hers always came out I'll be pleased. My mom made the flakiest pie crust and it was delicious. This year I'm hoping to bring back some tradition even if it's only a silly pie.

It's cloudy but not raining yet. Hopefully the rain keeps holding off. Pretty always wants to go shopping in the late afternoon. I hate driving in rain. The pie sounds delicious. I hope it turns our great!

Driving in the rain doesn't bother me as much as having to park, get out, run between the raindrops, etc. I don't run as fast as I used to I'm hoping the pie comes out good and I'm looking forward to baking again. It's been awhile so I hope I haven't lost my knack. I used to bake all the time and then it just faded away over time.

@Marilynda1225 I don't run anymore. I'm always afraid I'll slip and fall. Believe me, I understand. Most of what I bake now is meats and veggies and I only do that once every few months. I'm sure the pie will be delicious and wish I was close enough to you to bum a slice of it.

@DaddyEvil now that would be fun to share some pie I was wishing I lived closer to Anna @LadyDuck because she was making focaccia yesterday and I would have begged for some. Imagine if we could time travel and just show up at random myLotters to share a cup of coffee or something good to eat

My oldest daughter is having us for Thanksgiving. She asked me to bring pumpkin and apple crumb pies, so I will do that. My children do know how to bake pies, but of course they prefer that mom does it, by telling me mine taste better than theirs do. I don't think so, but hey...I don't mind. I bet yours is delicious!

I haven't made one in awhile so I'm hoping it comes out good. My daughter was surprised when I said I was going to bake us an apple crumb pie since none of us have baked pies in years. I kind of missed the old tradition of homemade pies so i thought maybe it was time to jump back in and see if I still have the knack to bake, I'm sure your pies taste delicious too and that your kids want mom to bake them moreso to remind them of the warmth they bring cause they are made with love

@MarieCoyle I have to laugh as we have always had that gravy debate too. My mom made the best gravy so any holiday she was called into the kitchen to make the gravy. She just had a knack and not one of us have been able to make good gravy. There isn't a holiday that goes by now since my mom has passed away that someone mentions moms gravy. So, I think you probably do make the best even if your family can do it themselves.

@Marilynda1225 Well, if I had to leave out one ingredient, it wouldn't be the love I put into it, so you are right. I have to laugh at them sometimes--''Mom is here, let HER make the gravy! '' They love the gravy i make or else they are just telling me that so that I will make it for them!

If you’re making home made crust for a pie, that is NOT silly. That is some seriously good pie you’re going to make!

My mom made the flakiest pie crust but I could never actually make it as good as hers. She just had a knack for baking so we always had homemade goodies when I was growing up.

We had an alert for bad weather, but it's sunny, very cold but a beautiful sunny day. I had something to do at the post office, so I went and I have nothing scheduled until the end of the year.

@Marilynda1225 - It's now 4:30 pm and the sky is getting cloudy, I fear they are right about snow tomorrow.

Glad your weather wasn't bad. I don't mind a cold and sunny winter day. it's just when it's raining/sleeting or snowing that winter bothers me.

I like pie too and wonder why I hardly eat it throughout the year. Seems as if pie is the most popular when Thanksgiving rolls around.

The pie sounds great. We are having a frozen apple crumb pie. The frozen ones aren't bad...we will bake it of course! lol

Apple Crumb is my favorite especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For years we've gotten those frozen apple pies and they are pretty good but this year I just decided I wanted to bake. Call me crazy

I love the crumbs on top (yum yum) and top it with some ice cream and I'm smiling. I'm sure Vince would appreciate it if you baked him one. But, it can be a lot of work
