Man Oh Man Housing is Getting Nasty

We just now received a memo from Housing. If you remember we had gotten one about bed bugs a week or so ago. The information was wrong. We have no bed bugs. And so the lady came and looked at the notice and took it with her. Came back later with a new one saying the new bug spray date of November 24th.
Now we get a memo saying that she will be out tomorrow to walk through and make sure we know what we need to do. If we aren't ready for the bug guy, we will get a Lease Violation and have to pay for the service. As if to say we weren't ready before and it was our fault. It wasn't.
I am angry and really getting tired of these people. They aren't around or answer the phone so we can't get answers we need.

She has never apologized for the obvious mistake she or whoever made in the memo she sent out. And, she took it with her, so we have no proof of the mistake. It just makes me mad.

No! She took it with her the other day when she came after the bug guy was here. I guess he went and told her we hadn't been ready.

You can call your county's code enforcement, it will be connected to your city government. There are some things landlords have do have to do, but they also have to provide times, etc. They also have to be ''reachable'' as return calls, communicate with tenants, etc. Last year I had to call our code enforcement as we had no one in our office for months, and things were going wrong and no one could reach them. Code enforcement DID reach them. They were given 48 hours to get their act together, had to go through a walk through with a county and a state worker. They had to replace umpteen smoke alarms, and make themselves available somehow to the renters. Oh, and they had a $2000 fine. (I wasn't the only one who called, there was about 10 of us). Since then we now have a maintenance hotline and an online portal, plus a number to the main office in another city. You aren't the only one, so many now who rent have no way to reach the office people, I am sure sorry.

I would think they should be available. I know what their hours used to be and that they aren't in the office on Fridays. We have lived here for years and are just experiencing a bad decline in their services to us. Communication lines and so forth are very important. Most of the people here now are foreigners and don't speak English very well. So they wouldn't call and it would just make us look bad if we did. They give these people a lot of leeway and us very little. That has been an issue for several years now. I'm sorry to hear you have issues there too. See our biggest issue is that if we are evicted for some reason, we have NO WHERE TO GO. We would be on the streets. This causes me a lot of anxiety and sleepless nights. They have been very good in the past and worked with us. I don't know now how they would act in different situations.

That is how this memo makes me feel. I emailed the lady back and said something to that effect. If we had gotten the correct information we could have been ready and there wouldn't have been a bug guy at the door and no preparation for the spray.

What a PITA. I live in an apartment and there are periodic inspections for fire extinguishers and sprinklers but they don't do general "cleanliness" inspections or walk-throughs. I mean the Moroccans downstairs had an absolutely disgusting apartment and management never knew. My downstairs neighbor is a borderline hoarder and no one ever said anything about that even though maintenance knew.
I would pass any spot inspection. I don't love to clean but I do the basics as I need to. I also have a cleaning lady who comes every 2 weeks to do all of the stuff that I don't want to deal with. I'm just glad that they don't pull that stuff here.
I thought I had bedbugs here when I first moved in. I kept finding some kind of insect exoskeletons in the carpet. I freaked when I saw that the policy was that I would have to move EVERYTHING out of the apartment for spraying. There was more insane stuff like having proof that all clothing had been washed at a laundromat. The cats and I wouldn't have been able to be here for a couple of days. It was nuts. I decided to just keep an eye on it and the shells disappeared after vacuuming and never reappeared. Whew.

Yes, big time PITA. Our maintenance runs to Housing with the least little thing. I wish we could afford to have a cleaning lady in here occasionally. My daughter does what she has to do. That isn't always enough. She's gotten better but she doesn't like to have to do anything if she can get away with it. She takes no pride in the home. It's sad but true. I can't do much of anything. My job is to set up their transportation, take care of the bills, remind them of the basics that need to be done, and hope things are okay downstairs. I am my daughter's payee as well. Being sensitive to anxiety is pretty hard to deal with too when something like this happens. When I am gone, I hope they make out okay. I hope it's not as serious as I take to be.

Thanks. I wish that the rent wasn't so outrageous and we could afford to go elsewhere. It would sure relieve my anxiety ALOT.
