Sleeping on a Dead Body

As much as this sounds like a horror story or something that comes from a Hollywood movie, unfortunately, people have found themselves sleeping on dead bodies. So when you are traveling and you arrive at your destination, check your room carefully and note any unusual smells unless, of course, you are staying in a luxury resort or hotel in which, hopefully, such things are not ordinary. Reports of the discovery of dead bodies stashed in mattresses have proved to be reality in places like Atlantic City, New Jersey, and in other states like Colorado, Virginia, and Florida.
You can imagine what it must have been like for the couple who checked into the Budget Lodge in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2010. The ceiling tiles had been stuffed with fabric softener so that the stench in the room would not be so great. Nothing in the room appeared to be out of the ordinary, but then this couple did not know that the room had been rented three times already during the period when a person had gone missing before they came along.
You can imagine what condition that body was in with three previous occupants sleeping on top of it. Finally this couple just had to complain. It was then that the body of Sony Millbrook was discovered under the mattress. As in all of these kinds of cases, Millbrook did not die of natural causes, and with time, his boyfriend, LaKeith Moody, was convicted of the crime.
Do you check under the mattress or the bed when you are traveling?

I check under the bed (and in the closet) every time. Most beds in the hotel/motels I’ve stayed in don’t have usable space under the bed, which is something I like.
It reminds me of that recent cruise where the 18 year old was murdered, and found under her bed in the stateroom by the cleaning lady. Can you imagine that poor lady’s trauma? (Trauma for the family goes without saying.)

Most places I have stayed have no access to under the bed. This is creepy to think about!

@RasmaSandra That's a good point - unless something creeps in from underneath the vehicle during the night. The bed lifts up and there is s torage space underneath which you can also access from the outside storage doors.

No, I don't. But, then again, George and I tend to avoid so-called budget motels or hotels. We stick with well-established known brands. It sounds crazy to me that something like that wouldn't have gone unnoticed. I mean, you'd think that someone would've noticed something. I suspect the staff knew, and ignored it because they turn around the roooms too quickly.
While it's true the sheets aren't washed daily, they're supposed to be in-between guests. Which means, that if the staff knew (again, I'm sure they did and didn't care), they ignored it until forced to confront it.
a budget motel might sound nice on paper, but you get what you pay for, or don't. If you're going to travel, do it right.

@kaylachan good that you stay at places you know are well-established. I have stayed in some motels that make Dracula's Castle look hospitable and now, of course, I no longer go anywhere.

No, but I never smelled anything odd in any room we stayed in on our trips, either. If I had smelled something odd, I would have been looking to see what it was.

@RasmaSandra Most motel beds don't have room under them to hide bodies.

I have never heard of this. Yeesh. And I thought bed bugs and roaches were the worst you could stumble upon in a hotel room. Who knew? lol
Are you sure this is a real story? This would be all over the news and I have never heard anything at all about this? Perhaps it's an urban legend you read?
