Our first real snowstorm in Michigan this year

Midland, Michigan
November 30, 2025 1:07pm CST
The forecast was for 5-8 inches starting yesterday. But it kept getting pushed back hours at a time. That isn't unusual for our area. Often it gets pushed back enough where we never get anything. We got a dusting of snow early in the month and we woke up to five inches this morning. I measured when I went out to shovel. I just came back inside after using a snow plow and I need to go outside once more to shovel nearer the cars and an area I made a mess of.

I'm doing fine. My son in law will be taking over our window washing business in 2027, and he plans on doing more with it next year to learn the ropes. My daughter plans on contacting the customers. I think I'll still be doing the majority of the bookkeeping.

@JudyEv I've already been backing away a bit since before I retired from cashiering. Although last year I did more while training my son in law.

@MarshaMusselman That sounds like some of the harder physical work will be off your hands.

Do you really freeze in Florida? I didn't think it was cold very often if ever there. I've never been so I don't really know.

@MarshaMusselman we have no central heating so when the temps drop into the 40s the apartment is very cold, I layer clothes and where I sleep I have a space heater, Oh, yes, it can get cold,

@RasmaSandra I'll have to keep that in mind if we ever have the funds to move. Is the cooler temps coming in your part of Florida in the winter or sporadic?

It’s nice to see you here again! We haven’t had snow in our forecast yet. While it got down to 24 degrees last night, next Saturday it should be 62 degrees.

I'd rather not get the snow but the great lakes need all the moisture they can get. I'm here for a bit today while taking breaks from snow removal. I do need to delete some discussions from long ago, but I might not start that just yet.

@MarshaMusselman - I also had ice cleats to wear when I shoveled, better safe than sorry. I would be happy to see you here time by time.

@LadyDuck I will try. It might be more possible during the winter months at least until after I've fully retired. Although I do hope to get better motivated to make a lot more of my journals. Once I either find a decent interior or complete one that I design I can then use it with many different covers. So that helps eliminate my time restraints. I began working on a large print password logbook a month ago that is waiting for me to finish.

I'm really careful not to fall. I bought ice cleats if that's what they're called, some years ago when we had ice everywhere and have never used them. I'll be putting them over my boots when I bring the trash bin in later. As for being back, that remains to be seen. But I'll try.

Ha. I would rather live someplace warmer but it's not in the cards at least not yet. Maybe one day maybe not. I'm doing fine. I keep myself busy ps playing to many games on my phone. Although I did some spring cleaning to get ready for Thanksgiving.

@MarshaMusselman It's warmer here... sometimes... I'm glad you're doing well. Everything here is fine, too. I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos, talking on myLot and reading ebooks. We need to do some straightening up in the living room and get some extra blankets folded, packed in totes and taken out to the garage again.

@May2k8 I don't mind rain when it's warm out but when it's cooler it feels too damp.

I don't like shoveling snow. But, I would not mind having a little bit of snow. Pretty picture.

My husband did the shoveling and purchased a good sized snow plow to walk behind years back. He took care of the snow removal from 1988 when we got married to 2008 when he spend several months in the hospital and lost his leg from a blood clot. He gets around okay by wearing a prosthetic. So, it's been my job since then. A few years ago I found someone to mow the lawn but I still have to do the snow removal.

As pretty as snow is it's a pain when you have to shovel/plow it all. We got about an inch or so yesterday so I guess winter is off to an early start.

It also seems a lot colder than it normally is in December too.

It isn't always super cold when we get a big snowfall especially when ours toward the end of the season in April. When I was young we got a lot of inches right before Easter and then on Easter we played outside without coats and the snow that wasn't in shady areas was melting.

@MarshaMusselman heavy snowfall is a really botheration for daily activities

@sathviksouvik mostly because some of those activities need to be put on hold until the snow is removed.

The view of snow is beautiful but I wouldn't like to stay in a place there. It's cold in my city but not as cold as yours.

@aninditasen inside we use gas heat in the registers, under the flooring in each room. Some people use other types of heat. When I'm outside I bundle up with scarf, coat, hat and mittens or gloves. I wear mostly boots outside in the winter and I wear three layers in the house because I run cold.

Here in central Illinois we got about 8 inches all day Saturday. It was terribly windy so it drifted. Then in the night we got a bit more. Monday we may get 3-4 inches in afternoon and evening. It’s cold so it isn’t going to melt any time soon. But the road crew did a decent job on my street and the sidewalks are done, I am very thankful.

Hopefully you don't have to go anywhere. Ours drifted some too but seemed to land where I needed to shovel.

@MarshaMusselman It's usually close to midnight before the road crew gets to my street. Hopefully when we get up in the morning it will all be plowed and shoveled out, because right now it would be difficult to get out. We didn't go anywhere today.
