Power outage.

Yesterday morning, as I was waking up, I heard a loud boom to the Northeast of me
Gun shots? No. A bomb strike? No.
It sounded like a power transformer blowing up.
Soon thereafter, I started receiving BOT calls from my energy provider. Power might be out in my area.
But it was not. I had electricity and gas. (It is chilly here right now, with morning temperatures in the 30s and 40s F.)
In another hour, I got a BOT call saying power had been restored.
I never lost power.
Do you have this kind of thing happen where you live?

That happened on my road around a month ago. I was actually outside taking out the trash, when I heard a loud bang. I really thought at first that it was a gunshot, but the minute I walked in my house, the power was out. The whole neighborhood was out. My neighbor and I agreed it was a Transformer that had blown. After I called the power company, they worked on it and an hour later the power was restored.

@LeaPea2417 I wonder what caused the transformer to blow here. I hope no moist squirrels were destroyed.

No, usually when there is an outage, or a supposed outage, I am not notified. I only find out anything when I call to ask when it will be restored. They have some of the nicest employees, but I wish they’d notify us since I signed up for text alerts. However, it’s really odd to get notified when you still have power. Your power company is special.

You’re lucky that your line wasn’t affected by that power outage. I guess the power connection you have is linked to another line that wasn’t impacted by that explosion or whatever it was. It doesn’t happen to us very often, but we do get notified when there’s a chance we might be affected by maintenance work. Still, there are times when we don’t experience any outage at all, or if we do, it only lasts for a short while—much less than the long duration they sometimes warn us about.

If power has been disrupted, it sometimes goes for a long hours under the plea of maintenance.

Yes, we did. My elder brother had told me about an incident that took place in 1965 A crow came flying and entered a transformer in the south west of our house. A loud burst and all the lights of the town were gone The damage was so heavy that the town had to live in the dark for more than a week.

Power transformer sure can be loud, can't they? We had one blow at the place where we live prior to moving here. It took forever to get it repaired. Glad to hear that you never lost power. Ours happened in the early morning so we weren't left without power at night. I I wasn't online yet so that wasn't a bother either. We just discussed life and read or something if I remember correctly. That was about 25 years ago.

The weirdest thing that happened was my next door neighbor lost power but I didn’t. So, we ran an extension cord to their house until the linemen got the repairs done.

No, if power or gas go out, the relevant companies let us find out for ourselves and report it.
I'm glad you didn't lose vital services.

Nope, that would raise my anxiety to the stratosphere, All quiet and warmer here and did my Monday blogging and hate looking out at 6 PM to see the black night,

It hasn't happened here. We don't usually get notice that the power is going to go out

Not lately; and I have a standby generator that will kick in when the power goes out...thank God.

we don't get any warnings about our power
we might get 1 about our water if we're lucky.
