So my mother is going to Germany and Austria

Had no clue. She and I are not one of those mother-daughter relationships where you speak every day about the details of your lives. HAHAHAHA hell no. If she calls me I answer because someone has died or there is something very serious going on. Bizarrely she is very interested in me being the new advisor of the baking club. She has offered to buy supplies which I told her was not necessary since we have funds. I told her she could come help with the kids. She said "it is really hard to get clearance to get into schools" and I was like "girl I am right next to the door. I can get you in." She is the one who sent me idea of the pre-made gingerbread house kits. I ordered several different varieties (traditional, Oreo, Starburst) for the baking club members to do on Monday. I appreciated that because the whole planning thing is stressing me out. Fine. So we are doing "gingerbread" houses. The Monster (my mother) texted me today to see how many kids had signed up. I told her. She then asked when they were doing it. I told her Monday. She responded that she was hoping it would be closer to Christmas as she was going to be in Germany. WHAT? Yeah that's how close I am with my mother who lives 10 minutes away. No clue that she had a trans-Atlantic trip to Europe. Where is she going? Germany and Austria. Where specifically? No clue. When is she returning? No clue. And they will be mad when I don't show up tomorrow. (another post)

Not everybody is close with their parents or parent.(I know you and your dad were close. I'm sorry you lost him.) When Pretty was still a kid, I took in several of her friends and raised them for several years as if they were my kids. For whatever reason, their parents weren't interested in raising their own children and I didn't mind. Some only stayed with us for a few months and others, like I said, stayed for years. At least your mom is interested, sort of, in something you're doing and find interesting.

She is going with my parents' best friends. They were a constant foursome. Now it is a threesome. They include my mother in everything. Her BFF jokes that her husband now has a 2nd wife.

At least she did tell you before hand. Maybe she is thinking of buying them souvenir type gifts.

I was glad to hear your mom expressed interest when she spoke to you about the baking club, but it wouldn’t kill her to fill you in more (even if you don’t care).

Seems odd nobody would have told you about that, but of course I am sure you didn't ask what was going on with her over a casual conversation.

Hmm...that's strange. But not very uncommon. I have seen many of my friends and colleagues having such relationship with their parents or one of the parents for some reason well known to them. I can't imagine a day when mom, my elder brother and I don't have a video call together for few minutes. Ours is a trio, a gang that is so close.
