Getting your money's worth

I started decorating our Christmas tree today. In 2022, our ‘Irish’ son asked for suggestions for a gift and I suggested an ornament to hang on the tree. In due course, this little box arrived with its nice coloured band.
Once the paper band is removed (on the left of the photo) and the box is opened, you need to unwrap some tissue paper to reveal a cute little silver container. You unscrew the lid and there is some tissue paper to remove. Finally, you get to the cute little china disc which has two little koalas bearing the names of our son and his wife.
How much nicer to go through all these steps before getting to the final prize.
I enjoy carefully dissembling this each Christmas and then re-assembling it later.

I'm glad he and his wife obviously put a lot of thought into what to get you that Christmas. It is standing the test of time.

@JudyEv Of course. It's a little ritual to access something special to you. Lots of people have little rituals just like that.

@JudyEv I had some gingerbread men I bought when my oldest was born in 1977. Every year, I took them out and they smelled the same. Sadly, my youngest took them with her to Alabama and we are not speaking. It's a sad story but I had to step back. I lost all my Christmas decorations and want to collect a few again. Maybe next year.

Very nice, indeed. And a good thing that he listens to his momma

That's really a unique gift. Do you like son's wife?

@JudyEv How could anybody not like you and Vince? Maybe she views you as some kind of threat or something? You never know what goes through people's minds, especially if they are not quite right.

@snowy22315 She has effectively stopped us visiting Ireland. We're really too old now anyway but it's a bit sad.

We're prepared to like her but she doesn't like us. She has recently been diagnosed with autism which probably doesn't help. As long as they get along well together, and they do, then that's all we ask. But it has made visiting very difficult at times.

Unwrapping it has become a ritual and part of the tradition. That is wonderful.

Your son and his wife want you to enjoy the process of unwrapping box. They two have good taste in choosing the gift.
