Former Christmas Traditions

Is there something you or your family used to do during the Christmas season, but don’t anymore? My first thought was how when I was a child, we had four Christmas celebrations: my maternal great grandparents, my grandparents on both sides, and then the Christmas my parents and sister would have. Of course, sadly, time goes by and people pass on.
I also miss decorating the Christmas tree with my mom. Diana goes all out though.

My childhood Christmases were awesome and my kids say our Christmases were great when they were growing up. Hopefully my grandkids will say the same thing about our current Christmas traditions

When hubby and I were first together we drove all over the state, crazy, trying to please everybody. We'd be out in the wee hours. Sure can't do that now. And most are gone, anyway. We used to make fruitcake on Thanksgiving weekend but hubby is not eating so much now so that has gone away, too.

Very nostalgic. Well during Christmas we would visit our maternal grandparents and uncles, eat alot of chapatti with beans or chicken stew, attend mass, walk around then make an x-mass tree using cypress and balloons. Sadly all my grand parents passed on. Just left with fond memories.

@SIDIKIMPOLE Oh, I know. I am tearing up thinking of the joy I used to get from my maternal grandfather. He was such a joyful person, and passed it on to my late mother.

That's nice to have had that many celebrations. I guess mine is kind of similar - the big family get together, but once my great-grandmother passed that stopped. Since then lost my other grandparents. At least a smaller group of us get together for Thanksgiving and Easter.

@AmbiePam They still aren't the same, but nice to see a small group of family at least...

Yes, multiple Christmas celebrations at each of my grandparents, and one with my dad's side of the family that was all extended family.

I have fond memories of going to my Grandmother's apartment on Christmas Day with other relatives. She always had great buffets of Christmas food.

Well, from age 16 to age 42 I cooked for the whole family. I always hosted at my house, both my family and my then-husband's family.
New hubby (18 1/2 years) doesn't want people at our house/doesn't want us entertaining. Complicated reasons why.
So I kind of miss all the big cooking that comes with the holidays and having leftovers for days.

Hmm... well we used to drive through the really nice neighborhoods that have went all out on Christmas decorations and just enjoy all the lights and such.
Also, we used to have Christmas dinner at my Grandparents house (father's side) but they've passed.
