There one minute, somewhere else the next

I had to undergo a gastroscopy today where a small tube is put down your throat and pictures taken with its tiny camera. All quite mind-blowing stuff. I don’t want to go into details but when they were ready to go ahead, they began giving me a partial anaesthetic.
They told me to keep my eyes open as long as possible which I did but next thing I knew I was back in the ward, just waking as if from a very pleasant sleep. I don’t recall feeling or hearing anything which I consider a good outcome.
After resting for a while and being given a bowl of chicken and sweetcorn soup, Vince came to pick me up and I’m home again. I feel a bit lethargic but otherwise well so it’s all good. I just found it strange that one minute I was keeping my eyes open and the next I was back in the ward. The wonders of modern science I guess.

I hope things turn out well for you... When I went in for surgery, they told me to keep talking to them, so I told funny stories and then was waking up... I didn't feel well and told the male nurse that I hurt. He checked the incision and said they had caught some hair in the stitches. He cut the hair and I went back to sleep.
My niece came to take me home and said I was still telling funny stories on the car ride home. I don't remember that.

The thing I find so amazing about that anesthesia is that I can go into the exam room talking about something, then wake up and pick up where I’d left off without missing a beat. You’d think I hadn’t even been asleep!
Hope everything’s okay!

You just passed right out. The time I had a colonscopy I sadly was awake for most of it, but at some point finally passed out and woke up in the recovery area.

My prayers are with you that nothing exciting will be found. I'm glad you are now home and feeling good.

I remember once I had to have dental surgery for wisdom teeth extraction and one minute I remember being anxious about the procedure and the next them telling me it was all over.

Yes, the anesthesia is known as "twilighting" where you're not quite under but you're asleep and unaware.
