There one minute, somewhere else the next

I had to undergo a gastroscopy today where a small tube is put down your throat and pictures taken with its tiny camera. All quite mind-blowing stuff. I don’t want to go into details but when they were ready to go ahead, they began giving me a partial anaesthetic.
They told me to keep my eyes open as long as possible which I did but next thing I knew I was back in the ward, just waking as if from a very pleasant sleep. I don’t recall feeling or hearing anything which I consider a good outcome.
After resting for a while and being given a bowl of chicken and sweetcorn soup, Vince came to pick me up and I’m home again. I feel a bit lethargic but otherwise well so it’s all good. I just found it strange that one minute I was keeping my eyes open and the next I was back in the ward. The wonders of modern science I guess.

I hope things turn out well for you... When I went in for surgery, they told me to keep talking to them, so I told funny stories and then was waking up... I didn't feel well and told the male nurse that I hurt. He checked the incision and said they had caught some hair in the stitches. He cut the hair and I went back to sleep.
My niece came to take me home and said I was still telling funny stories on the car ride home. I don't remember that.

@JudyEv Pretty was with my niece when they came to pick me up to take me home. I don't remember Pretty even being there. I do remember my niece giggling at me, though.

The thing I find so amazing about that anesthesia is that I can go into the exam room talking about something, then wake up and pick up where I’d left off without missing a beat. You’d think I hadn’t even been asleep!
Hope everything’s okay!

@DaddyEvil said he more or less picked up where he left off too. I've had a bit of trouble swallowing and the specialist said there is a 'pocket' where food is getting stuck from time to time. Next is a barium meal and X-ray and perhaps an operation. It is what it is I guess.

I remember once I had to have dental surgery for wisdom teeth extraction and one minute I remember being anxious about the procedure and the next them telling me it was all over.

You just passed right out. The time I had a colonscopy I sadly was awake for most of it, but at some point finally passed out and woke up in the recovery area.

I'm glad I passed out through all of it. I thought maybe they'd just numb the whole area but I'd be awake. Thankfully that didn't happen.

I"m glad you were able to sleep. I have found that they never give me enough anesthetic; and I feel too much pain. I hope the results turn out good for you. Please let us know.

I also like crab meat and corn but sometimes there are tiny bits of shell in the soup.

I am sorry for your son. Mom always had without anesthesia, I hope that now they sedate patients.
