89 days until spring. Winter solstice is today, 12/21 at 10:03 AM EST...the shortest day of the year. Soon the days will start getting longer again...I can't wait. The PowerBall jackpot is up to $1.6 billion. No winners last night. Did I ever tell you about the dining room full of aluminum cans? Hubby was collecting them; and the dining room was full of garbage bags full of aluminum cans. He never did take any to the recycling center. Cousin #2 is gradually taking them; and we are using the money for holiday meals. There are still some in the basement and garage as well. Breakfast - Unsalted peeanuts Lunch - Chicken and vegan cheese sandwich, veggie straws, yogurt Dessert/Snack - Nature's Bakery Brownie Dinner - PB&J sandwich, veggie poppables What did you eat yesterday? We've been saving aluminum cans, as well. There are several dozen bags of them out in the garage that we should gather up and take. There's an aluminum recycling center on the other side of our city from us, so not too far. (Pretty prefers drinking sugar-free soda from cans. When she finishes a can of soda, she rinses it and I crush it.) I ate a hot ham and cheese sandwich for breakfast yesterday along with a fiber brownie and ate some Salted Caramel ice cream for lunch. Around midnight, I made some hash browns for supper and ate them with a mix of ketchup and mayo. YUM!

They're paying $.42 a pound right now for aluminum. Down a little bit but still good.

I would really love to receive money for recycling aluminum cans. We have to collect them, put them outside in a container every other week and they collect the cans... we pay for the service!

My next door neighbor saves aluminum cans for me to take to the no-kill animal shelter. In return, I save the pull tabs from the soup cans and cat food cans for them! I had chicken & cheese-stuffed baked potato for lunch and finished off my chicken & veggie soup for dinner with a grilled cheese sammich. Yogurt and apples and applesauce!

Hi, Can't we just skip all that winter stuff and hop right to spring? I am in Florida but it is supposed to be in the 40sF where I am. BRRR!

Winter sucks. Hubby and I should have moved to the Keys when we had the chance.

It will be good to get rid of all those cans. And nice that you get paid something for them.

I have to remember to call my representative, Virginia needs to get with the program and give cash back for aluminum cans. Not that I have that many, as pop has gotten ridiculously expensive, and when I do buy it, it is usually the 2 liter bottles, but being able to recycle cans and get cash back is a good option.

I drink two cans of sugar free pop a day. The cans add up fast. Hubby used to drink pop with sugar way too much.

I'm not sure. Cousin #2 has to give me an accounting. It was enough to pay for Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas.

Today is New Years for us. We'll celebrate tomorrow. Last night I made a very simple bean taco for supper.
