What was your best New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day ever?

I can’t really think of one that glaringly stands out. You know, oddly, it might have been one I spent with my sister. My parents were out of town, and my sister and I were home from college break. We watched two movies (I remember one was “Mother” with Albert Brooks), and then watched the ball drop on TV. What’s so special about that? I don’t know, maybe it was because she was in an exceptionally good mood. It wasn’t the most exciting one I ever had, but I was with my sister, and laughter was involved. I was never a party girl (shocker). Tonight, I’m just watching the college (American) football playoffs (for Eva’s household I’ll root for Ohio State).

New Years eve has only ever been about watching the Carson show for his commentary on it but that was long ago, since then nuttin. Used to spend New Years day at moms, she always made a wonderful meal but she always insisted we eat black eyed peas , she tended to be stuperstitious

Not a black eyed peas fan, huh. You must have been a good sport about it.

You got it. It wasn't that I was a good sport, ma would watch me take at least one spoonful of them before she'd stop starin at me.

@AmbiePam I used to go out dancing with friends... I didn't get drunk but most of them did. Happy New Year!

I like the quiet ones now, but the wildest one was when a bunch of us met up in New Orleans for a BoDeans concert on New Year’s Eve at the Hard Rock Cafe. After the show some of the band and crew and us hit the French Quarter. The first place we went was a bar called the attic (that you had to go DOWN stairs to get tow). It turns out we crashed a wedding reception. I told my friends, “If they have a wedding reception at 2 AM in the French Quarter on New Year’s Eve, they DESERVE to have it crashed.”

I think my best one was years ago in Los Angeles, We went out for dinner at a beautiful Moroccan Restaurant with belly dancers. The dinner and the show lasted until a few minutes before midnight. We were served Champagne and we celebrated the arrival of the New Year. I still remember that one.

Back in the days when my kids were little we would either go to a party or have the party. Those were fun times but as the years passed New Years has become a night when I'd rather stay home and watch the ball drop on tv.

As a teen, I always wanted to go somewhere. As an adult, I’m perfectly content being at home.

My best New Year's Eve ever was when my family was in Rome. It was back in my college days and the whole story of getting there is worthy of a couple of posts. Anyway we did a curated tour but of course had free time. My mother got the concierge to arrange NYE dinner at a local restaurant. It was so much fun! Delicious food, great decorations. . . and my sister went missing for awhile. She went to the bathroom by herself and didn't return. When we finally were concerned enough to go looking for her we found her dancing with a waiter on the dancefloor. It was hilarious. Such a great NYE.

I always stay up to watch the ball drop on New Year's Eve. Then I text everyone a Happy New Year and go to bed. I don't have any memorable New Year's Eve. I have had an open house on New Year's Day since my daughter was 15. Since I moved in here and let everyone in the building know about my open house, it's been wonderful. Unfortunately, because I just got over COVID, I canceled tomorrow's open house. People here look forward to my open house. I'm sorry I will disappoint them this year.
