Fireworks are only legal in my city on the 4th of July but the police will allow them to be fired off on other holidays, too.
They started today at 9 pm and finally stopped at a few minutes after midnight. People still shooting them after that will be arrested.
I'm awake, of course, but the rest of the city seems quiet now.
I hope you all have a good night.

@DaddyEvil o, that's good, for arresting these kind of people. i am glad she can protect herself; times are not what they are used to be.

@DaddyEvil - I was seriously concerned, according to the Swiss the Italians are noisy, I am discovering that it's not true, at least not in this part of Italy.

@LadyDuck Americans are considered noisy by most of the world.

@AmbiePam I just checked the 10 day forecast for my area and we'll be in the 50s and 60s for at least that long. Of course the mornings won't be as nice but still...

I'm really surprised they didn't wake you up earlier than that. One of our neighbors was setting off percussion grenades that made the whole world shake every time they exploded! (I think they're called ground cannons but whatever they were, they weren't visible in the sky over the houses.)
Now, I want to move in with you.
The police will be vigilant about any fireworks going off here, so maybe not.

I didn't hear any last night here. I know Vancouver has banned them for any occassion, so maybe Niagara has, too.

Here, they shoot them off before the 4th but stop at midnight or they're fireworks are confiscated if they continue after the 4th. Same on New Year's Day. Early is fine, after midnight on either day carries penalties of fines and confiscation.

You're really lucky, then. When we lived in the country, we'd hear them all night long.

I was asleep before ten and I did not hear any fire works this year. There have been years when they have startled me out of my sleep.

Somebody was setting off those big things that shake the ground when they explode.

Any explosion can be dangerous. Even fireworks made for kids can be dangerous if some idiot puts lots of them together before setting them off.

We should only set off fireworks til 11pm ….however religious times and New Year this is waived….to be honest , although some were let off by us there were not that many….thank goodness.

Fireworks for religious reasons aren't allowed in the US. We might let people mask their faces for their driver's licenses but we do restrict some things.
I'm allergic to the smoke from fireworks so we stay inside and keep doors and windows completely closed when fireworks are going off.
One year somebody kept shooting fireworks at our house and I called the police. They told the people to clean up the mess in our yard and shoot them some other direction or get fined. We haven't had a problem like that again.

The local government unit here facilatated a new year countdown and a fireworks display in a place very near to us to welcome the new year so I was able to witness the show without a hardtime. Personally, our celebration was very simple with few foods on the table. I also visted my siblings house before midnight. Feeling hopeful on what's ahead for this year to unfold.... Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you and your family, too. I hope the new year brings good health for all of you, good friends and prosperity!
I don't know if our city puts on a fireworks display for the New Year. I believe everything we heard going off last night was from the different neighbors.

Looks like your city found a good balance between celebration and keeping things under control. Starting at 9 and ending just after midnight seems pretty reasonable. At least everyone got their chance to celebrate before things quieted down. There’s something peaceful about the calm after all the noise fades away. And it must feel nice hearing the city settle back into silence. Being awake during that quiet time can be strangely reflective. Not everyone wants to be awake in the late hours. Hopefully everyone wrapped things up safely and responsibly. Wishing you a calm, restful night ahead. Hope you have a great start to the New Year. Enjoy the time!

Thank you. I normally sleep during the daytime and read or play on myLot at night or watch videos until daylight.
I think but don't know for sure that it depends on the city mayor's likes and dislikes what people can get away with here. He is in charge of the police, after all.
I hope you've had a good celebration for New Year and have a happy, safe and prosperous New Year.

I don't know. Maybe it was too cold for people to want to be out shooting them off?

It sounded like there were a lot less fireworks here but it could be due to the frigid cold, I hope you both had a good first day of the year,

Usually there are quite a few fireworks and gunshots at midnight; but I think it was too cold.

wow 9PM is a little bit early. Here I believe the longest fireworks in a single place go for 30 minutes. Wishing you the very best of 2026

Well, I am very glad of this.
