And here we are, starting 2026. Happy New Year, friends. I´m back at home from my New Year with Dixie. When I came back the house was scorching so I left the door to the garder open. I woke up at dawn to go to the toilette and a roach was walking from the door towards my bed. I would prefer snakes, poisonous spiders and mountain lions to roaches so I jumped and brought the RAID spray. This roach was very much alive so that in spite of being soaked with poison she went under my bed. Today I found it dead on the floor on the other side of my King size bed. I have been listening to audio stories. They have dukes and damsels with no money. They all end well. The last book I read that was what I´d call "good literature" had a depressive university professor that ended up dead just because he was near where people had a gun fight. Next week Martín will come twice. He´ll have lunch with me on Wednesday. I´ll make one of the dishes he prefers. How was your New Year?

You are so right that year 2025 began and ended in a few days. I cannot believe it's almost one full year since we sold our home in Switzerland. We started the year 2026 sleeping. Happy New Year to you.

I hope I can sell my house this year. Meanwhile, I´m listening to audio stories of the Victorian times. Better than listening to news. I´m not minding is they are not good literature.

@LadyDuck Those things have happened many times. I´m sure that there are building regulations but they should be checked.

@marguicha - Very bad news from Switzerland on the first day of the year. All those young people burnt inside a night club without an escape exit. Surely not a good image for Switzerland.

Happy New Year! I'm glad you had a good time with Dixie and Humberto! Roaches creep me out! Especially if they're inside a house! I started a book of short stories yesterday. The first story was about a young girl who got home from school and saw a semi truck/tanker overturned behind her house. She went to investigate it and saw the road behind her house cordoned off and people in hazmat suits cleaning up the spill. Of course, her yard wasn't cordoned off and she wandered too close to the spill... That's where I closed the book and started something else... I'm not into horror and the thought of a little kid dying from some unknown chemical made me almost physically ill. Pretty and I had a quiet New Year. Thanks.

I hate horror stories and movies, specially if they are good.

@DaddyEvil I remembered that I had liked very much Rosemary´d Baby when I saw it with my husbandand at the cinema many years ago. But I decided not to see it again when they had it on TV. When my husband was alive, all the years we were married we held hands whie at the cinema. Alone it is different. I prefer comedies and romance. I think that I saw Pretty Woman over 5 times.

@marguicha I don't normally read horror or watch horror movies. I'm currently reading everything one author is writing, so will have to be careful about the rest of his books now.

Glad you are back and what a welcome you seem to have had. Glad you had some RAID. Ugh! We are having a bug guy come and spray every couple of weeks. The Housing rep told me he will continue to come until the roach situation is no more. We haven't seen any, but I guess one of the apartments down the way is infested. Ick and ugh!! Nice to see you back. We had a quiet New year's. I watched the celebration on TV all over the world. Sounds like you enjoyed your time away.

I always have some RAID of the strongest kind for roaches and spiders. The only poisonous bugs we have here are spiders (the brown recluse). We have to spray every few months even if we don´t see them.

Wish you a very Happy New Year 2026 ! If you like to read Action Thrillers, you can check Michael Connelly's books (one book named "Narrows") : I am not much fearful of Cockroaches yet I am not very fond of them as well

@LindaOHio Social life with friends is not the same as having someone around every day even if we are not talking to each other.

Very calm, sort of boring even. I made a traditional lunch that I posted about. Leftovers from that were put into a soup with some Italian sausage today. Sometimes I feel all I think about is food. I go back to work on Monday. Then I can just think about kids.
