A little too much for a 12 year old's birthday.

I normally don't follow many celebrities. And for sure, I have never, ever been a Kardashian fan. But a friend sent this to me and couldn't believe it was even true--evidently it really is.
Kim Kardashian bought her 12-year-old daughter, named North West, a nose bridge piercing, black grill things for her teeth, and... drum roll...a 106-carat diamond skull pendant necklace with a matching bracelet. I mean, come on now...it was only a mere $250 grand...a bargain!
From what I read from my friend, Kim and the daughter, North West, share an Instagram account. When this was posted, people went ballistic by how inappropriate they thought it all was, and how ridiculous. so Kim pulled the whole thing down. Did she honestly think that it would be met with approval by ''normal'' people? I would be more impressed if she had used the $250 grand to help someone, or to donate it to help animals or cancer patients or whatever, but no...she buys diamonds for a 12-year-old.
If you get presents like this at 12, what can you ever get in the future that would top that? I realize her mother is like a billionaire, but come on...join the real world, Kim.
Insanity.

Well, for people born into wealth, it’s easy for them to get whatever they want in life. But you’re right, spending money on those things just to show off online is a bit much. That money could have been used to help many in need, but instead, it was spent on the whimsical demands of a daughter.

Problem people with privileges sometimes go overboard while it costs nothing to help someone who's struggling

Yes, they do. At times, I feel how fair it is that some people get so much and go crazy, and some get nothing. I have heard people tell me one should be happy with what one has, but it's all a white wash. Only the person who suffers or is in need knows where the shoe pinches.

I realize she can spend her money however she wants to. But as I said, if you get those type of gifts at 12, what would you expect for a gift later in life? The Biltmore? Your own country??

I don't think she is asking for anyone's approval. It's her money, and she is free to spend it how she likes. Buying a diamond for your own kid is not a big deal. Well, if you can afford it, why not?? As far as charity is concerned, it is not everyone's cup of tea. A real big hearted fellow can indulge in charities. I feel the only thing here inappropriate was sharing it on her handle, especially when we know most people in this world are struggling, and most are super envious.

I didn’t imply that she was asking for anyone’s approval. And buying a basic piece of jewelry is a lot more appropriate for a very young girl—but yes, that’s just my own personal opinion. I have personally never coveted jewelry. I feel it was not the best gift to give someone so young. But as I said, that’s just my opinion.

@MarieCoyle In India, gold is a coveted item. Most kids have ear piercings done and wear gold earrings within a few months of their birth. Used in weddings and gifts, gosh, the market is huge. The younger generation does dabble with diamonds too, yet gold jewellery takes the largest slice of the cake. Kim recently visited India to arttend Ambanis wedding. I think she got this idea after watching ladies there literally wear jewellery as a garment.

But posting online means you seeking approval if it keeps you happy keep it private a wise saying reminds us of that

Of course she is rich and she can spend her money like she wants, but is this good for her daughter? I do not think so, she is growing up believing that everything is due to her and she can get everything she wants. We never know what life will offer us as adults.

My son read the article. He said, good grief--when a fellow falls for her and wants to give her a ring, will he just get a diamond as big as a car and give it to her? By then, she will have had anything and everything she ever could want, nothing would have any meaning anymore.

You've put it well cause having everything as we perceive like human beings can lead us into thinking that that's all about life but it's totally wrong.

I guess she's free to spend her money any way she wants. There have always been rich people, it's just that now they tell us more about what they are doing! I wouldn't want to be her daughter though - imagine if you lost the pendant!!
And as you say, What will her life be like as an adult, will she struggle to maintain this lifestyle?

It's only now that we get to know more about them, like daily, and to be frank, it's annoying. If her child loses a pendant, which is very possible, I do not think it matters to them. The copious amount of money they have is beyond my understanding. I wonder if they have any emotions attached to the gifts they get or buy? How the child grows up and what she does in the future is a mystery. We will see that if we live ha! We have seen such sad cases before of spoiled or misguided kids. What can we do but pity them?

@coolimrose I never pay any attention to this stuff - looking at their posts would only make us envious while contributing more to their wealth! I have better things to do.

I am honestly not envious. If children grow up having everything they want and way, way more than they need, will they even know how to survive if the money dries up?

I did read about that in some news thing. People went nuts, saying they are all too young to care for an animal, it would be up to the household help to do that, and the kids won't be doing the training and actual care of the dogs. I mean...doesn't everyone live like that?

From what I have gathered, many went after Kim to tell her that they thought the entire thing was ridiculous and inappropriate for a 12 year old. I did not see the Instagram posting, I am rarely on that site and I do not follow the Kardashians.

It just seems so foolish. I know she can spend it how she wants to, but still...
In the future when the parents are no longer living, will most of the money be gone? If there is a lot left and the children get a big inheritance, will they even know how to manage it? I can see them blowing through a fortune thinking more will be there when they want it...but maybe I am wrong.

@MarieCoyle here you are talking about financial literacy which includes management. It's a crucial thing that every parent need to instill in their children but in this case am so worried because the [aren't is very extravagant I pity the children for real.
