The tech just came in to do my vitals. My BP was like 132/92, my pulse was elevated in the upper 80s, and my temperature is 100.1. She got all snippy with me. I said it has been 97 for the past day and a half. She said "your blood pressure is high too". I said "for me that's great".
She called over the nurse who said to do the temperature again. It was 99.3 or something like that. I told him to look at my chart and look at the temperatures. He said "you're hotter than normal" and I said "that's because I'm pissed". He said I'd better settle down but not in a mean or threatening way.
I'm pissed because my platelet level had improved which the NP told me meant that I'd be discharged. Then she followed that up with "we just want an ultrasound first". I was furious. I don't need more tests that might keep me here. And I'd love to know what they are going to do to me if I really do have a 100.1 fever. Put me in quarantine? It isn't my fault everyone has the flu.
Now that I'm thinking of it--it was hot as Hades in the ultrasound room. I was wearing the gown, sweatpants, and a hoodie as well as having towels stuffed all around me. I realize that I am a warm-blooded animal that can maintain my body temperature but between that and my anger it is possible that I was a little hot. Still I can't entirely go with that theory because my BP would have been closer to 150/110 if it was due to my emotional state.
I feel fine. Darwin help the doctors if they make me stay.

What’s the observation timeframe in New Jersey? They may be trying to keep you for 23 hours to stick the insurance company (as opposed to sticking you for more blood). That’s one thing I love about the VA: I never have to worry about that nonsense.

Hospitals are no fun at the best of times and they are also excellent places to get exposed to other illnesses.

You can always check yourself out AMA if they don't let you go home soon.
You may have caught the flu while you were being held prisoner... I really hope not, though.

You went in with stomach pain? To me, the ultrasound makes sense.

I hope you won't need more tests and you can go home.
