Mother In Law Has to Have Eye Surgery

United States
January 7, 2026 3:51pm CST
We took mother-in-law to the eye doctor today because she was complaining about redness in her lower left eyelid and she was also constantly tearing from her left eye. Long story short she has clogged tear ducts in both eyes and the left one is infected. They gave her antibiotics for the infection but she has to have an operation to prove down and remove the stones out of the tear ducts or else she'll continue to get infections. She did not take this news well.

This will probably be very difficult for her. She won’t fully understand what’s happening, and she most likely will have to have someone with her 24/7 for a few days to keep her from rubbing or scratching her eyes. I’m really sorry she has to go through this.

My dad is supposed to have eye surgery on the 15th. I think it is the eye that he did not have the cataract done the last time. Sis and bro in law are coming up to help out with that...but they are predicting snow for that day as far as I can tell. Hope she does well.

I don't blame her! The ophthalmologist thinks I need eyelid reduction surgery and I'm not happy about it. I don't want scalpels anywhere around my eyes! I hope she makes it through the surgery well and heals quickly.

Operations on eyes would always be scary.

That is rough. I would worry about her being able to follow post op instructions in her mental state.

I hope and pray for her speedy and complete recovery after a successful surgery, to Christ be the glory. If you can tell her that she is lucky that hers can be cured by an operation, it might help her accept it. My mom was told by her doctor to take care of her eyes, because not all can be cured by an operation, and she listened. hehehe... right now her eyes is doing well.
