My kind of birthday gift

I hope the photo shows up. Rufus dog is passed out on the floor. Since he is adopted I really don't know his age. Hah. A delivery van just went by. That got Rufus up. I am just back from walking through a state park. I picked up my helper on the way over. She took charge of excited Moxe- huge help. Moxe is a dear and also weighs 45 pounds and is young. The park is a candy shop to her. We walked almost two hours. I am grateful for the time out among the trees, walking of soft duff instead of concrete. I have been too sedentary. The trip really recharged my dead battery!

I need to do more of that myself. I have become to much of a home body lately and I don't like that.

@sallypup Yes there are. I just need to go to them. My granddaughter and I did that all the time but she doesn't live here anymore.

That looks similar to the Willapa Hills State Park area. There is a beautiful trail that looks like this at Millersylvania too. It's so nice you got out for a walk. I miss my state park walks and hosting. I was asked this morning to host in San Juan islands, but had to turn it down. I will be later in the year. Being in nature is so healing.

@noni1959 I wish it wasn't so hard to get to ferry docks to the islands.

@noni1959 It's a crazy long drive and confusing, too, to even get to Port Townsend let alone get any further.

@sallypup Definitely. My son has a friend that lives there. He went to their wedding last summer. He said it was a neat experience but wouldn't want to do it often.

Neat photo, I haven't seen anything like that since 1958 when dad was stationed in Germany.

Neither did we, we lived on a base near Frankfurt for 3 years and just outside my school was a part of a forest, on weekends mom took us for walks in there.

@rebelann That must have been magical. I lived for over 20 years in sagebrush/ semi arrid country. I could feel the pull of the trees.

@sallypup You're welcome. Rufus was leaving messages for other dogs and Moxe wanted to play with them.

@DaddyEvil Thanks. They sure did have a good time. Rufus marked fallen fir branches and ferns and jumped in the lake a couple of times. Moxe wanted off the leash cause she needed to go hassle other dogs.

That is truly a wonderful birthday gift to you. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I love being outside, but would never go into my woods alone. Snakes!

@DianneN You're missing out on a lot. Are there many snakes there?

@DianneN Are those snakes venomous? There are Garter snakes here but they are harmless to humans. Truth? I don't know if its global warming or what but since I have been back in this greener part of my state. I have not seen near as many birds like herons as I did when I left just over 20 years ago.

@sallypup Some of those snakes are venomous - copperheads, eastern rattlesnakes….but even a baby garden snake frightens me. Sorry about those birds. I see so many in Connecticut, and so many exotic birds in Florida. Perhaps your birds will return in the spring. I hope so. Herons are so beautiful.

@AmbiePam There are massively built log shelters for families and other groups to have meals in. I walked and imagined people packing in coolers of food and drink and the kids running around crazy.

Lovely photo - such beautiful tall trees! Nature walks can do wonders - I do believe in "recharging". I know concrete all too well - and yep, it's just not the same.
