Is anyone looking forward to the 2026 Winter Olympics?

The upcoming Winter Olympics are in Italy, starting in February, and I wondered if anyone is planning on watching them. When I was a child, all I wanted to do was watch the figure skating (shout out to Nancy Kerrigan, Katarina Witt, Elvis Stojko, and Kristi Yamaguchi). As I got older I’d watch the ski competitions and bobsledding, but I’d say my interest has waned in the last three Olympics. I’m hoping to get into it this year. Of course, the Summer Olympics get better ratings, but the Winter Olympics are still fun.

I did pay attention in the Nancy Kerrigan and Yamaguchi days. I could care less now. I have no interest in the Olympics.

No, I never watch Olympics... I used to watch the weightlifting back when I lifted myself but wasn't interested in anything else. Now, I'm not even interested in that and haven't been for years. I hope you enjoy them.

Thanks, I hope I can get into them, but I’m not looking forward to hearing our anthem booed. Perhaps though, the audience will be too classy to do that.

I have never been interested in Winter Olympics, there are a few games I like of Summer Olympics.

@AmbiePam - I think they are in Cortina, we spent a summer vacation there when I was a kid. I would never go in winter, I hate too cold weather

I never watch TV so I generally miss all these big events, and only pick up on one or two things. I do like watching some though when I think of it - ice dance and snowboarding for example. Recently I came across this which I loved

I read today about four Australians who are competing. There might be more from Australia but these four were mentioned specifically. We are a multi-cultural country like the US but it still surprised me a little that only one had an Anglo-Saxon type surname. I know one lives in Montreal and perhaps the others do too. You have to live where the events and experts are i guess.

I remember as a kid seeing all these Russian, Ukrainian, and Romanian athletes living and training in the United States. I was so confused because as a kid you think you have to live in the country you compete for.

@AmbiePam We have a world-class (equestrian) driver who competes for Australia but hasn't lived here for years and years. Many of our top equestrians live in the UK.

you are right, winter olympics are still fun and i enjoy skating too. i think i'll turn on the telly, to see what sport is on and i would like to watch an opening ceremony; i always liked watching that. i think many hosts put a lot effort into that
