Not hearing from our older son, and not hearing the truth for a while, proved a shock to us.
To make a long story as short as I possibly can, he was working as Global Chief Compliance Officer, Senior Assistant General Counsel, and made Executive Director for the top international management consulting firm where he worked for about 15 years in its New York City office.
A new CEO shut down his program. As a result, everyone my son hired, including him, lost their job.
He was so upset for his colleagues and friends, and so worried about supporting his family.
Fortunately, he was given a 6 month severance package, retained his stock options, and was also given his yearly bonus.
While at home, he made a list of 100 law firms that offered areas of his expertise and took online courses to refresh his knowledge of whatever areas of law he felt he needed.
As it turned out, one of the law firms he had worked at before leaving, was looking for someone in his field. He called them and someone who had worked with him answered the phone. He remembered my son, set up an interview, and was hired.
My son was able to begin his work after his severance pay ended, receive a much higher salary, also receive stock options, and get an even larger yearly bonus. He is working again as Global Compliance Officer, Assistant General Counsel, and with people from this firm and his first firm. He loves everything and everyone and is so happy, although busy as heck.
So, when I first heard this news around two years ago, I was sick from worry. I couldn’t myLot, gave up golf, etc. I am pretty sure I suffered from depression looking back on it now.
But life is good again!

That's how I felt when my youngest went into the Marine Corps. The whole time he was in basic training, I was a mental case. Your son sounds like an industrious young man who will do well in life.

@DianneN He only did one enlistment. He has a good job now and lives near here. My daughter has been in the Air Force for almost 20 years, though.

@DianneN Loosing a job, one you've had for years, can be scarry.

@kaylachan Yes, definitely! He had a lot of friends there who knew places and people he could see, but he did his own research and lucked out. We were so relieved.

I'm glad everything worked out for him and you don't need to worry as much about him and his family. I can definitely understand worrying like that!
I'm glad you're doing okay again.

@DianneN I remember when I lost a job and didn't want to worry mom... She was so mad at me when she found out, long after I found a new job.
(She had stopped by the old job to talk to me and they told her I didn't work there anymore.
)
Of course, we all have things to worry about but worrying about our kids/grandkids or a spouse is different.

I'm glad I could get a giggle out of you.
Pretty and I are both worriers, too. She gets mad at me for worrying about things I can't change but she does it, too.
Right now, I started to go out to sweep the snow off the front porch and shovel the sidewalk and stairs but she won't let me do it. She's worried I'll fall and get hurt. (I have fallen down the back stairs so don't use those anymore but we still need to clear a path to the front door so the pharmacists can drop off our meds one day this week.)
I'm sure everything will be fine with your son and the snow blower.

That takes some quick thinking, ingenuity and drive. I believe in fate and if he hadn't lost that job he'd probably still be working for the same wage.
Yes, you probably did get depressed. Mothers want the best for their kids and something like this can really send a good mom into a tale spin. I'm glad you are feeling better and were able to come and join us again. It's nice to see your post up.

That's great that he found a newish job. I was in NJ back in November and got stuck up there and got sick until after Christmas and came home just before New Years Eve.

We all pass from such phases of crisis. It happened to my younger son in 2020. There was tense atmosphere in the family until he got hired in Scotland bank.

I'm glad your son is happy and secure again. I"m sorry you fretted so much about this employment. I lost a 15 year job at the age of 62. I had planned on retiring from that company; but they went bankrupt. Who wants to hire a 62-year-old? Fortunately I was able to apply for disability and in 6 months I was officially retired. Yes, things do work out. Plus I got to spend more time with my hubby who had retired on disability a few years prior.
