Hubs and I have dentists all over the place. He sees one up north. I see a different one up north. Here in Florida, we go to the same dental office for our cleanings. While getting our teeth cleaned this past January (appointments already made for next January) they discovered that hubs needed a crown replaced, and I needed a wisdom tooth extracted. No hurry they said. Hubs already had the first of two appointments, but guess who has a wad of gauze in her mouth right this minute?

My wisdom teeth had to come out when I was 16 and it was a horrific ordeal. I'm still leery of dentists. I hope everything goes well for both of you.

@DianneN You're very welcome. I hope you're 100% as soon as possible. Mom was told she couldn't be in the room with me when I had my wisdom teeth removed. The oral surgeon wasn't my regular dentist and didn't listen when I told him the numbing shots had worn off. I could feel everything he did with the last tooth he extracted. He was hurrying to get all four out and didn't cut all the way around the bottom wisdom tooth on the right side. When he yanked it out, he tore the skin on my gums from that back tooth all the way to the front teeth... I started screaming from the pain and started screaming that I was going to kill the dentist! And I would have if I had caught him! They had put a leather strap across my body holding my arms down so I couldn't move them. When he tore my gums, I broke the strap. The nurse jumped on top of me trying to hold me down. I threw her in the floor and was trying to pull that dentist out from under his desk where he had gone to escape from me. Mom ran into the room yelling at me not to hurt him and grabbed my arms and held on. The dentist was curled up under his desk crying "Please don't hurt me!" over and over again. Mom forced me back into the chair and made me stay there. She went next-door to my regular dentist and asked him to come look at the mess the surgeon had made of my mouth. He sewed my gums back together and told mom not to pay the surgeon's bill. Mom told me later that when people heard me screaming they ran from both waiting rooms. She said she had to fight the stampede to get to the room I was in. Edit to add: My wisdom teeth had to be removed because they were coming in sideways and pushing my other teeth towards the front of my mouth. I still have one bottom tooth that is crooked from that. I don't trust dentists enough to have braces put in. I'm lucky I can keep from panicking every time I need any dental work done.

@DaddyEvil OMG! How barbaric! He should have been sued and his practice shut down. I can see why you don’t like getting dental work done. My parents were good friends with both my orthodontists. Well, the first was only a dentist who dabbled in orthodontics, hence the second one. He finished the work on me before dying of cancer.

It’s no fun for sure. When I had the only 3 I had at the time, they had to be removed for braces. My mother watched from the doorway and fainted with a bang on the floor. Everyone, including my orthodontist left me with my mouth hanging open and ran to her. When I turned to look at the commotion, I was so embarrassed! At 15, everything is embarrassing Thank you. Just a horrendous headache and a bit of one today.

Only the two shots were painful, because I wasn’t numb enough. The horrendous headache I developed later wasn’t very pleasant either. However, the tooth came out fairly easily. So glad it’s out.

Ouch! Tooth extraction is such a pain especially the wisdom tooth. But I'm pretty sure your dentist has gentle hands.

I'm sorry. It is not fun to go through. I had all 4 taken out when I was 17 and could only eat soup, pudding and ice cream for a week. It was awful.

My other 3 were all taken out at the same time when I had to get braces put on. I don’t believe the 4th had popped up by then. I know what you mean. Still have to eat like that.

I was still at university when all my wisdom teeth were bothering me, I had a really good oral surgeon and he removed all four of my wisdom teeth in one sitting and gave me a prescription and off I went.

@LadyDuck Unless you hear otherwise, don’t. I had 3 removed for braces when I was a teenager. This one hadn’t grown in, yet. Since there was no wisdom tooth above it, it was useless. Glad it’s gone now and feeling much better today.

I hope that went smoothly. I originally got two wisdom teeth, one rotted away and had to be removed so when the other developed decay a couple of years later I opted to remove that too, since it had nothing to bite against anyway. They gave me painkillers to take home but I didn't know what they were for.

Sounds similar to why I needed mine removed. The first 3 were removed when I needed braces and way before this last one popped up. Basically, it popped out after several attempts, and I needed two shots to numb my mouth. Those made the procedure take so long. Only needed Tylenol for my horrendous headache last night. So glad it’s over!
