A very pregnant goat

My nephew posted some photos on Facebook of his very pregnant Nigerian Dwarf does (goats). I had to share this with you. I can’t help wondering how many babies she has in there. Last time he had an almost 300% birth rate which included a set of quintuplets. He always hand-rears the babies and milks the mothers as this means the goats grow up very used to humans and are quieter to handle. Most of the males will be castrated and sold as pets so it’s best if they are hand-reared.

That is one pregnant goat! It looks like she will give birth to a litter.

She will only weigh half as much once the kids are born.

@JudyEv How many babies do they usually have at once?

@snowy22315 This breed rarely has less than two and mostly three. It's a quick way to grow the numbers when you have a 200-300% birth rate.

Wow! That is a wide-bodied goat! She's got twins, at least in there!

@JudyEv Maybe the other goats gather around and help her up and down? Or just cheer until she gets up by herself.

That poor goat! She surely is carrying around a lot of weight. It almost looks like a heavy weight was dropped on her back as someone tried to flatten her into a pancake!

@JudyEv Well, that's a good way to keep them from escaping out the garden gate! They can't run if they can't fit through the gate! lol

@moffittjc There is a little video of them all coming towards the gate but none of them are running at all. Hopefully this link will work for you:

She won't know herself when all that weight is gone. And she wouldn't fit through a garden gate either. lol

They are very cute and make great pets. When the goats are due to kid, my nephew sleeps in the stables so he is close at hand if anything goes wrong.

@JudyEv I saw a video the other day how the lambs that are hand reared are the first to run to the shepherd when he calls. This was showing an idea about our heavenly shepherd. I'm sure the baby goats always love your nephew and run to him their whole life.

@judyev Oh what an indelicate view of the goat’s business end! I do wish I had the space to run a few goats here.

Haha. It is a bit indelicate, isn't it? I'm tempted to get two chooks to have on our little patch of lawn but I guess I won't.

It's good she has a coat or she'd have terrible stretch marks.

I think there will be 6 children given birth to by the goat. But I did not understand why the male goats will be castrated

My nephew doesn't want to see the goats eaten so he tries to sell them as pets. Adult bucks are too aggressive to make good pets. He doesn't castrate the very best ones but tries to sell them to other breeders if he doesn't want them himself.

She is indeed very pregnant. Any idea how many babies she'll have (or had?) It must be very interesting to raise goats.

I should think at least three but sometimes it's deceiving and they might just have one or two.

Wow, she looks absolutely loaded. It really makes you wonder how many babies are in there. After last time with the quintuplets, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another big surprise. The hand-rearing approach clearly works, they always seem so calm and friendly.
