My not-new watch

I went to a mall yesterday for a few things and while there I had the batteries replaced in two watches. For some reason, I have about five watches; all with flat batteries. You can see one of the watches in the photo. It would have been cheaper to simply buy a new watch in the department store but I’ve been taught not to waste so a new battery it was. I enjoy wearing this from time to time.

I had a similar one, but it was a mechanic watch (no battery) and it was gold. As it stopped working I sold it, repairing was a lot more expensive than buying a digital watch.

I don't like throwing these away when they're still working but I could have bought four watches for the price of two batteries. I was cutting off my nose to spite my face. .

@JudyEv I was reluctant to sell mine, but gold price was high and I would have never had the watch repaired.

@LadyDuck Gold is a good price again now I think. I have a marcastite watch. That is probably the most valuable of mine but I don't know if that would be worth much either.

I have two identical watches. I kept one set for regular time and the other set for Daylight Saving Time. Neither one of them have a good battery in them. I just use my phone to check the time.

I've started doing that too but I like to wear a watch if I go somewhere a bit special.

@JudyEv I've always worn a watch but most people here don't anymore. You'll see them pulling their phone out and checking the time everywhere you go.

This is a very pretty watch. You do not see this often anymore. All you see for watches are the clunky "fitness watches". This is dressy, like real jewelry.

It's a beautiful watch. I am thinking of getting me another wrist watch. It's been years since I've worn one.

@JudyEv I think that is a fine collection to have. I love brooches and picked up a really pretty one at the thrift store with rhinestones.

Somehow over the years I've collected a few. I don't want to just throw them out.

I have at least 5 watches that need new batteries, two in a watch winder box and my smartwatch which I just charged. Watch batteries are so expensive, but we have two terrific jewelers we go to rather than the dealerships. I just wish I had more arms!

@JudyEv I wear my smartwatch all the time. I will switch to a “good” watch when we go out with other couples.

Yes, you can only use one at a time. Vince has a smart watch. I liked having a watch but now I'm pretty used to managing without one.

I have several watches that need batteries. One of them is my Marvin the Martian watch!

I like a good watch ring, but I honestly don’t really need either as my phone is always so near. Of course, eventually I’ll find myself needing to know the time with no clear way of finding it.

I used to sneak a look at others' watches sometimes but that no longer works with modern watches. My phone isn't always with me but if my phone isn't then Vince mostly is.

They don't replace watch batteries here, but they do in a couple of malls by friend. That reminds me I think I gave him one or two watches to have batteries put in, and I haven't heard anything about them. I hope he didn't lose them! I also think I have one here.

These two should last me a long time going on past experiences of watches with batteries.

I have three watches with flat batteries. I have three watches that I interchangeable. One is a sports watch that charges through solar light, it can charge under a lamp. One is an Apple Watch, and the other has two batteries in it from Philip Stein. So the other three watches with no batteries can wait. Will have rhe battery replaced when I feel the need to use them.

I won't get batteries for my other watches as I won't be using them.

Whenever I try to take a close-up photo, I can't get it to focus. It's very annoying.

I have about a half a dozen watches and a couple of them has flat batteries. I wait for a while before replacing them.

I have two watches and both are rechargeable, which saves on batteries
