A crazy delivery mistake?

Yesterday morning, , one of my nearby neighbors had a huge box delivered to her by FedEx. They dumped it on her front porch, right up against the door. I saw it and wondered why it was sitting there but I forgot about it until I took the trash to the curb. She saw me and came over to talk for a minute. The box was not addressed to her and had a completely different address in another part of town. It appears to be a heavy piece of furniture, either a couch or a futon or something. She can't move it away from the door, and I wasn't much help. She had called FedEx and their answer was ''we will see what we can find out'' and of course today the box is still there. She was frustrated and called the police non-emergency number, and a police car showed up after a bit with two officers. The police called FedEx and said it was going to be marked as a suspicious package and they had exactly 30 minutes to pick it up. We have a huge FedEx hub not that far away. They did send a truck to get it, so I guess that's one way to deal with it all. I wouldn't have thought of calling the police, but she had to have her sidewalk and porch clear, her husband just had surgery on his leg and is in a wheelchair. That's the only way she can get him in and out of the house, is by the front door. I guess I just don't understand. Do these places like USPS and FedEx, etc. hire people that can't even read, or do they just take boxes wherever the mood hits them, or?? It's just crazy, and whoever really did order the item has to deal with ''where did you deliver it to, and I want a refund'' thing. And it's even crazier that FedEx wouldn't come and get it until the police got involved.

That sounds like one of the drivers around here. Our packages never make it to the porch or door. They just leave them in the yard. We have to go "find" them. Calling Fed Ex here gets no response if you even get your call picked up. They don't answer the phone!

Deliveries are just getting insane. They land wherever they want to dump them. Our @LindaOHio has had several deliveries dumped way out by her mailbox, not near her house. My daughter had a postal service employee actually throw a small package against her door, she got it on camera. They just...don't care!

I'm glad the woman thought to call the police. All doors should be useable for the just in case times.

@sallypup She was, too. She didn't know how to get her husband out of the house for his next therapy.

She had to have the doorway cleared. She takes him to therapy every other day and like I said, that’s the only way she can get the wheelchair in and out easily. The non emergency police phone number comes in handy, I guess.

The drivers typically have long rroutes, and they often don't pay attention. It's likely it was put on the wrong truck, because the person loading trucks didn't read it. But, when she called Fedex, they should've handled it better. But, of course, they don't care unless someone threatens them.

It wasn't even delivered to the street it was addressed to, let alone the house number, and it was addressed to a person other than her. She's lived there for years, so it's not like she just moved in. It's like whoever delivered it just dumped it without any regard as to who it was for, or addressed to.

@MarieCoyle That's obvious. It likely wasn't scanned, either. Had it been, I'm sure it would have come up as an error or something. I hope the person it was intended for gets it. I'm used to USPS screwing up from time to time and putting things in our mail box that don't have our name on them. And, we've lived here for going on nine years now. But, it's a simple put it back with return to sender. Not so easy when it's Fedex.

I am glad that she called the police, at least they were able to make FedEx move. What a shame they did not come immediately to move that package. I never had problems here with the deliveries.

@MarieCoyle - I received this morning a small package from Amazon, I ordered a lot the past year and never had a problem.

All police stations have a non-emergency number for people to call, which is what she did. She couldn't get her husband safely out of the house any other way due to his wheelchair. You are very fortunate not to have issues with deliveries.

FedEx is HORRIBLE. They are the ones that deliver my packages in a s**w drift or in front of the garage.

So many nightmare stories of what they do. I don't understand how they stay in business!

I would never have thought of or even considered calling the police about that

It's imperative that her doorway was not blocked. If there was a fire or whatever, she cannot currently get her husband out of the home any other way with his wheelchair, except the front door. The police felt like it was important, and it was.

I wouldn't have thought to call the police, but I'm glad that she did. Some people clearly can't do a simple thing like making sure it's at the right address or making sure someone can get in and out of their front door.

I hate seeing my stuff is coming from FedEx anymore as they are awful. We have had packages that belonged to the neighbor many times. Glad they got it moved for her. I would not have thought about calling to report to the police either

Ugh! Glad the police were called. I’ve had a lot of problems with UPS. Once they left a box at the garage door and I ran over it. Another time, they left a package in the pouring rain. And the worst was when they put a box inside my barbecue grill!

Sometimes I think those delivering just don't care. I remember a postman shoving Christmas mail down a drain but that was years ago.

I guess I am old school--I actually expect someone to do the job they are supposed to do, in the proper manner. You are right, they just don't care.
