A crazy delivery mistake?

Yesterday morning, , one of my nearby neighbors had a huge box delivered to her by FedEx. They dumped it on her front porch, right up against the door. I saw it and wondered why it was sitting there but I forgot about it until I took the trash to the curb. She saw me and came over to talk for a minute. The box was not addressed to her and had a completely different address in another part of town. It appears to be a heavy piece of furniture, either a couch or a futon or something. She can't move it away from the door, and I wasn't much help. She had called FedEx and their answer was ''we will see what we can find out'' and of course today the box is still there. She was frustrated and called the police non-emergency number, and a police car showed up after a bit with two officers. The police called FedEx and said it was going to be marked as a suspicious package and they had exactly 30 minutes to pick it up. We have a huge FedEx hub not that far away. They did send a truck to get it, so I guess that's one way to deal with it all. I wouldn't have thought of calling the police, but she had to have her sidewalk and porch clear, her husband just had surgery on his leg and is in a wheelchair. That's the only way she can get him in and out of the house, is by the front door. I guess I just don't understand. Do these places like USPS and FedEx, etc. hire people that can't even read, or do they just take boxes wherever the mood hits them, or?? It's just crazy, and whoever really did order the item has to deal with ''where did you deliver it to, and I want a refund'' thing. And it's even crazier that FedEx wouldn't come and get it until the police got involved.

That sounds like one of the drivers around here. Our packages never make it to the porch or door. They just leave them in the yard. We have to go "find" them. Calling Fed Ex here gets no response if you even get your call picked up. They don't answer the phone!

Deliveries are just getting insane. They land wherever they want to dump them. Our @LindaOHio has had several deliveries dumped way out by her mailbox, not near her house. My daughter had a postal service employee actually throw a small package against her door, she got it on camera. They just...don't care!

Ugh! Glad the police were called. I’ve had a lot of problems with UPS. Once they left a box at the garage door and I ran over it. Another time, they left a package in the pouring rain. And the worst was when they put a box inside my barbecue grill!

@MarieCoyle I depend on the stores I shop in to decide what delivery service they use. They don’t give me a choice. Oh, don’t even mention the postal service!!!

@DianneN I have a personal vendetta going against USPS. They are sooooo slow. I get neighbor's mail...they get mine. Or mine never shows up at all. Sometimes bills don't show up until AFTER the due date to pay them. As I have said before, the Pony Express was faster and more accurate.

Oh, my, they put one inside your grill? That's just wild. I never intentionally use FedEx or UPS, because they are as bad as the postal service at this point. It's all crazy!

How weird. I hope she gets it all worked out. If the police are involved hopefully, they can get to the bottom of it. I wonder if this is some new scams the Dark Web has come up with.

@MarieCoyle .......I would be interested in knowing how this all went down. How they got her name and sent it to an address so off from hers.

A pretty expensive scam, but I suppose it's possible. This lady never orders anything online, only has email.

@celticeagle The oackage did not have her name on it or her address. It was for someone she had never heard of,at a different address.

The drivers typically have long rroutes, and they often don't pay attention. It's likely it was put on the wrong truck, because the person loading trucks didn't read it. But, when she called Fedex, they should've handled it better. But, of course, they don't care unless someone threatens them.

It wasn't even delivered to the street it was addressed to, let alone the house number, and it was addressed to a person other than her. She's lived there for years, so it's not like she just moved in. It's like whoever delivered it just dumped it without any regard as to who it was for, or addressed to.

@MarieCoyle That's obvious. It likely wasn't scanned, either. Had it been, I'm sure it would have come up as an error or something. I hope the person it was intended for gets it. I'm used to USPS screwing up from time to time and putting things in our mail box that don't have our name on them. And, we've lived here for going on nine years now. But, it's a simple put it back with return to sender. Not so easy when it's Fedex.

@kaylachan It's not so easy when you can't even lift the box, either. Amazing that the box was addressed to go to another person who lives on another street about 2 miles away.

I hate seeing my stuff is coming from FedEx anymore as they are awful. We have had packages that belonged to the neighbor many times. Glad they got it moved for her. I would not have thought about calling to report to the police either

@wolfgirl569 No, they don't. And I don't get it. I mean, wouldn't you think that most people would complain to someone? I would.

I wonder if they get so many complaints that they just do nothing. Maybe FedEx just thinks the sellers will automatically replace things if they are not delivered? Whatever the reason, these companies need to get their act together.

FedEx is HORRIBLE. They are the ones that deliver my packages in a s**w drift or in front of the garage.

@MarieCoyle I keep complaining; but to no avail. If I complain too much, my packages get delivered in a s**w drift.

@LindaOHio I even went to my post office, and as nicely as I could I explained the problems here. They said they had heard rumbles and had calls but no one had come in and ''formally'' complained. And since I had, they would ''look into it'' but I know it's not the clerk's fault. It's just so frustrating.

Yes, I got a FedEx package for my neighbor not long ago, but luckily it was a fairly small box so I just took it to her.

I wouldn't have thought to call the police, but I'm glad that she did. Some people clearly can't do a simple thing like making sure it's at the right address or making sure someone can get in and out of their front door.

Yes, she didn't feel she had a choice. There was no place to put the big huge box anyway, and no one could lift it alone. Evidently, whoever delivered it couldn't, or didn't, read the name and address on the box. Good grief.

I am glad that she called the police, at least they were able to make FedEx move. What a shame they did not come immediately to move that package. I never had problems here with the deliveries.

All police stations have a non-emergency number for people to call, which is what she did. She couldn't get her husband safely out of the house any other way due to his wheelchair. You are very fortunate not to have issues with deliveries.

I'm glad the woman thought to call the police. All doors should be useable for the just in case times.

She had to have the doorway cleared. She takes him to therapy every other day and like I said, that’s the only way she can get the wheelchair in and out easily. The non emergency police phone number comes in handy, I guess.

Sometimes I think those delivering just don't care. I remember a postman shoving Christmas mail down a drain but that was years ago.

We , unfortunately, have many drivers around here that do that sort of thing. They just dump a parcel at any house….its like, it’s been delivered so it’s not their problem now ! I wouldn’t have thought to call the police either, but given her husbands condition I say ‘ good for her ‘

It wouldn't have been my first thought either, but hey, it worked. It's just amazing that so many deliveries go by the wayside. How do these places replace items, etc, all the time? You would think it would be expensive!
