We're those people

Brrrrrr light ice covered the car this morning. Up and at 'em and time to go to the pool. I found hubby's gloves lying on top of boxes in the recycling toter- whole other tale of woe. At least he was very happy when I found them. So we headed to the car. I found the scraper. Suddenly the neighbor guy from across the street zipped in behind me. He had a spray bottle of deicer in his hand. Without asking, he started spraying the stuff on all the car glass. I think he should have asked but for sure it was a nice gesture. He looked kind of funny- he had a sweat shirt on, shorts and shoes. So..... bare legs. I told him he should go get warm. He never talks to us. Ever. I guess we're the needy old folks on the block. Thirty minutes in the pool this morning. Now cold rain is coming down. Winter frosty nights have decided to move in. I'm hoping all the plants that have decided its Spring will be okay.

I think there is little doubt I am the needy old person here, although I have never asked for help. It is usually just given. However, most don't really go out of their way to provide it.

It’s good to know there are still people willing to help others. I do hope if you really need help you have people you can ask.

Sounds like a nice guy. Not many would de ice someone's windscreen voluntarily on a freezing cold morning wearing shorts He must have been freezing He meant well, a kind gesture and maybe he should have asked...

@Ineeddentures He's a quiet guy who likes shorts. Middle aged and not muscled, last summer he was out mowing his street side lawn wearing red nylon shorts. Kind of made me laugh.

@sallypup He sounds like a good neighbour to have I like shorts too. But it's too cold to wear shorts on winter All my shorts are blue or black

I’m sorry he offended you. I’m glad he did that for you though, even if he really should have asked you first.

@AmbiePam He startled me more than anything. I guess people watch us more than we realize.

I'm glad he thought to go over and help you. I probably wouldn't have asked, either. I see someone working on something and, if I can, go help them. *shrug* I'm glad you got a nice swim in this morning.

@sallypup Yes, I would have said "hello" before I even got to you and asked how you were feeling. I'm glad it was a good swim.

@DaddyEvil I can see you running over to help us. I bet you would have said hello, though. Nobody bugged us at the pool.

Such a shame that he doesn't talk to you. I wonder why that is. At least it was nice of him to spray the windows.

Well, at least the neighbor did help, even without asking. And it's OK to accept help when offered. Knowing you, in your heyday you helped a lot of people when you could. Sometimes, I am needy, and I'll admit it. I have had to call for help with son a time or two. Friends have helped me when I didn't even ask, and I will be forever grateful for their kindness and love. Prayers are said when I don't ask for them, but they sure are appreciated. I try hard to pay it forward when I have the means and the time, in small ways. I made neighbor Dale a lot of meals and took them to him, but he's gone now. I will never forget how much it meant to him to have an occasional home cooked meal, and it required so little effort. I have to cook anyway.

I am still the one who goes out and sprays the windows. Have not needed to for a couple of days. No really close neighbors here except John. He is not in good shape, but he did start on cutting down the cedar that fell earlier this winter. I think he may have either an inheritance or some disability income, as he got tired of working for the city sometime last year and just quit.

I think that was very thoughtful of your neighbor, no matter that he has his seasons mixed up.

I also hope that the plants in your garden survive the cold weather.
