Feast your eyes on this!

On our bus trip recently, we had lunch at a winery. There was some lovely bread, dip and dukkah for starters then a choice of four mains and two desserts. Vin and I both had Scotch steak which was tender and delicious. The other choices were barramundi (fish), chicken breast and a vegetarian option. But the dessert was something else. Feast your eyes on Vince’s photo. The ‘basket’ is made of the same stuff as brandy snaps. It holds ice-cream and strawberries sitting in some yummy syrup. Then, just to top it off, there was angel hair (spun sugar) on top.

Very interesting looking. I hope you let Vince eat some of it, too.

Viince had his own but knew about it later. Being Type 2 diabetic, if he has too much sugar it can make him feel a bit sick.

@JudyEv I am pre-diabetic. I know about feeling sick if I eat too much sugar with one meal. (Some things, like pecan pie, are worth feeling sick later. It is my favorite dessert.)

@DaddyEvil Yes, some things are worth a small amount of discomfort later.

Why do they always drizzle the dish? What a waste. And is that a drop of mustard?!?

It's some other sort of 'jus' or 'coulis'. I wouldn't bother with it either but it's meant to be impressive.

I would have also enjoyed a good steak, but also barramundi is a good fish, it's a sea bass.

@LadyDuck Vince usually cooks it very nicely but you have to buy the right cut for a tender steak.

I don't have steak too often as sometimes it can be a bit tough but this was very tender. I really enjoyed it.

Barramundi is popular here. If it's interesting enough, maybe I'll write about it. It seems it's not known there.

That dessert looks amazing! Scotch steak? Do they marinade in scotch? I haven't heard of barramundi. I'll have to look it up.

There is a cut of meat here called a Scotch fillet. Not sure how it got the name.

I don't eat a lot of steak as it isn't always as tender as it should be but this was really nice. The meal was a set price and part of the bus trip cost.

@JudyEv Steak not cooked properly is a horrible thing Juicy and Tender , tis how it should be Well rested and allowed to relax Then cut against the grain to prevent it being too chewy

I had to look “dukkah” up. In looking at the photo I would have thought that was coconut, not spun sugar. It does look amazing.

I can see it looks like shredded coconut but the description said angel hair. Barramundi doesn't seem well known either.
