I’m having some trouble.

So in my earlier post today I mentioned it was a good day except one minor exception. I spoke about it a long time ago, but it had to do with medicine. One morning, about three years ago, I looked at the pills in my hand, for the day, thought, if I put one more pill in my mouth, I’m going to throw up. Just that thought alone, and I immediately threw up. Fast forward to this afternoon after lunch, and I put one pill in my mouth, reached for the water, and threw up. (TMI, I’m sorry). I understand it’s psychological; I guess after 24 years of so much medication my mind said, nope. It happens about twice a week now. What can I do? And it happens whether I take them one at a time, or all at once. It’s great if none of you take medication, but unfortunately, I have too. What do you think I can do?

I feel bad that you're having trouble taking your pills. I'm at a loss for what to suggest. I take all my pills at once and just gulp them down with water (I always take a mouthful of water before I put the pills in my mouth so they slide down more easily).

Maybe I need to put the water in first. That’s a good idea.

I don't have any good advice. You've got to just keep trying.

I'm sorry that happens but I can't offer any advice that would be helpful. I take morning meds and afternoon meds. It's easiest for me to just take them all at once and swallow with a gulp of water. I'd rather not take any meds at all but, they're the only things that keep me above ground at the moment. *shrug* I'd help you if I could.

I tend to to get comments about how much medicine I take, and I’m like, you think I WANT this? I know it’s not close to your preference either, but you rather enjoy breathing.

@AmbiePam Yes, very true.... If it helps you any, I take 12 1/2 pills every morning and 5 every evening. And lets not forget that I have one shot every Wednesday evening and one shot once a month, normally. I told Pretty that some evil person keeps waking me up to give me shots... She cackled and asked if I'd rather not keep living. I didn't have an answer for her.

Sorry I don’t know how to help you. I remember my late grandma buried her medicine in a small piece of banana and swallowed it. She said it helped as she didn’t like the taste of the medicine.

When I know that I will have a hard time taking a food or medication I shut my eyes. Perhaps this might help. Just do your best not to look at it. Bless you

My goodness, that's a bad problem to have. Does eating first make any difference? Can you crush the pills and mix with something? I'll pray for you.

Thank you, Vicki. Some of the pills I can’t crush because they are capsules, but I might try that with the rest.

One of my granddaughters will gag and throw up with some of her meds. She has learned to drink a bit of protein shake, milk, or something she likes and then put the pills in, take another drink and swallow. It's helped her a lot.

I can’t swallow tablets at all. I have to chew…..I know you’re not supposed to. If you have to take them around the time you have food, can you maybe hide them in the food. Ive done that before ….hidden in a chocolate muffin.

I'm sorry you're having this problem. I take pills twice a day; and I have several to take each time. I wish I had something to suggest.

My doctor gives me nausea medicine that goes under my tongue and helps very quickly. Would this help you?

I don’t know. I don’t seem to get nauseated until right when the pill goes in the mouth. I do have nausea medicine from a past illness, so it wouldn’t hurt to try it.

@AmbiePam If I feel real nauseas, then I take it before my pills. It helps me a lot.

I wish I can make a suggestion about this issue but I hope you are feeling much better now.

I am a gulper, but many of my pills are vitamins and minerals. I just throw them in my mouth with a gulp of water. Bob will do one or two at a time with a sip of water or juice with each. In the nursing homes in the past I have seen pills put in a spoonful of pudding, maybe one or two at a time. Bob even had a lady that they gave chocolate ice cream syrup with pills. Of course often they needed the calories. It would also probably work with a spoon full of yogurt. Some pills need some food to help them stay down.

I've gone through this at times. Years of medicine...it takes its toll. I've smashed up pills and hidden them in my food like we do for a toddler or a pet...Most of the time I can get them down, but like you, once in a while it just doesn't work. Oh, and for some weird reason, when this happens, I can often get them down with a hot drink--hot tea, hot coffee...I know, I guess I am weird. I hope this works.
