I "saw" the NP at the employer's clinic

I am well-known for putting off dealing with health issues. Anyone who reads my posts regularly knows that. It has really gotten out of hand lately though. I could barely walk at work on Wednesday. A couple of coworkers had to help me cross the hall from classroom to classroom because I was afraid I was going to fall. I wasn't dizzy but my balance is just out of control. I had a virtual appointment with a nurse practitioner on Thursday. She works at the district's clinic which provides all sorts of services for free. She put me on an anti-depressant which also supposedly helps balance, prescribed a cane , and prescribed physical therapy. The PT doesn't start for another 2 weeks though. I've been freaked out for the past week after seeing the hematologist and speaking to my mother. She was all "you've got to be careful with the snow and ice so you don't fall, hit your head, and die of a brain bleed". Thanks for putting that thought into my mind. It has been warmer and the snow is melting but now turning into ice overnight. I did 2 trips to the dumpsters today as well as a walk to the management office to drop off the rent check. Yes my hips hurt and I had to stop a couple of times but I did it. Hopefully tomorrow I can pick up the meds and cane. I'm just happy that I was able to get all of that done on my own. I have neighbors who would help me but I really don't want to have to ask them for that.

Your mother sounds really cheery lol So when exactly did this all start? I would be a bit scared of it was me, but I most likely would ignore it

I’m glad you finally got “checked out”, and are getting some real help. I hope this will be a big, positive step for your health.

At one point I was having extreme dizziness, and I went to a doctor who is not my primary. He said it was anxiety and I took the pills for a month. They did not help, and one of the listed side effects was dizziness. I think you are making good choices and a cane or walking stick of some kind will be helpful in the meantime. Be careful, of course.

Did she prescribe Meclizine for you? I also use a cane at least part of the time. Some days I have no trouble walking and am not dizzy at all and some days I can't take two steps without reaching for my bed to brace on or a door or piece of furniture. (Yesterday, Pretty watched me holding onto the doorways going to the bathroom and, when I came out, she volunteered to fix me something to eat and brought it to me in bed and then took the plate and fork back to the kitchen for me when I finished eating.)

I hope you are going to be alright. Canes don't have to look like they came out of a nursing home.

I worry about the stairs you have to climb. Stairs are my personal enemy...ugh. I am so, so glad you did the virtual appointment. You have to take care of YOU.
