Things Are Looking Up for 2026

This time last month I was an absolute stress mess - mold, humidity, cold, house issues, and trying to survive in the wetlands in travel trailers. It felt like everything was damp, heavy, and overwhelming.
We’ve been in the new house since Valentine’s Day and, with just a few minor tweaks, it’s been glorious. I can’t even explain the relief. It’s not perfect. We have no garage, so there’s still that “where does this even go?” issue, but it’s peaceful.
We’ve been selling off items to save for a large hickory shed, and eventually RV covers. There’s still a lot of work ahead: taking down the giant cedar, grinding the stump, leveling and graveling for parking. We’re on a steep hill with no turnaround, so no one can just drive up without careful planning. It’s a bit of a logistical puzzle.
The plan is to widen the area so we can move the trailers off the top pad and finally get the garden going. My son is starting seeds, has trees ordered, and I’ve got roses coming for around the house. It’s very much a work in progress, but it’s a happy one.
And best of all? We are not living in those trailers anymore.
We have no furniture yet, having sold or donated before the move, but I've been watching the Marketplace. It's hard to find something decent without driving into Olympia or Astoria. I may have to.
Yesterday I made soda bread and decided to change it up with Colby Jack cheese and jalapeños baked in. My son topped his with cream cheese and smoked salmon and declared it amazing. I’m not usually a big salmon fan, but I think I’m going to try it for lunch today after we haul off the ruined trailer mattresses (the wet destroyed them).
It’s a lot of work. But it’s good work. The kind that builds something instead of just surviving.
I’ll be back tonight to catch up. Have a wonderful day.
Anything exciting happening in your world?

@LadyDuck I remember growing up, my grandpa (from Germany), would go fishing often and bring back huge Salmon and smoke them. We'd go visit and he'd have some for us to take and it was so delicious. I guess my not caring for it as I aged was just how it was made. I miss his salmon.

I've been having fun finding my early American vintage pieces and have my bedroom finished. I'm still looking for a couch or good recliner and a nicer rug in my flex room. Poor son has no furniture in his living room but we are fully bedroom-ized (is that a word? lol) It takes time but we are so happy to be in a house.

I went to visit my doctor for an appointment this morning. The meeting with the doctor was very good to pick up some medicines.

My son said I've cooked and baked more since Valentines day (day moved in), in the last year. lol I did cook in the trailer, but not like I have been in the house. I thought I hated cooking now, and it was just hated it in the trailer. Tonight, I made banana bread for the girls. They went to see their great-grandparents and my son just went to get them from the train in Olympia.

I have cooked in a camper before. It's not easy, especially when a person is not alone, and people get in your way. Then there's the clean up...with all you were dealing with for so long, I don't honestly know how you had the energy to cook at all!!

We have a lot of rain again. The frogs are crazy out and loud. I love hearing them.
