The price of steak here is up another 7 per cent since we invaded Iran. Do they even have cows in Iran?

I admit to being confused as to how our President's actions affect the cost of living for American citizens. We invaded Venezuela a couple of months ago, and gas prices skyrockcted in California. No problem. You have to have a bit of cash on the side to live in California. Now we have invaded Iran. My steak prices are up another 7 per cent. I paid $33/pound for steak today. Are prices increasing or decreasing where you live? I admit to being among the American elite. I have made over $40,000/year for most of my life, working in teaching and social services. I have saved money by living humbly. But my hunch is that there are those who have worked hard and are struggling to pay for basic necessities. Let me know if you think I am wrong. Are you living better now than you did a few years ago?

Pretty and I are doing okay right now. We have good food, a small house we rent with heat during the winter and air conditioning during the summer. I know there are people around us who can't afford to keep heat running or air conditioning. I feel bad for them but can't help them. A few years ago, I was able to work and earn a living.

This is with the people in every country but yours is a developed country and if you compare it with India, there are lots of people who are living under the poverty line.

@sjvg1976 Pretty and I also live under the poverty line. I'm sorry other people do, too. We couldn't live the way we do without government assistance.

Who are paying for tariffs? The American consumers of course! But your President surely does not care, he is rich enough. Gasoline price is going to increase enormously thanks to your President attacking Iran. Let's just hope the war does not spread to other countries.

@TheHorse Yes, it has already spread to other countries. Netanhayu is the one behind Trump now. He is using US money and men to expand his country.

I don't know about better but about the same I guess. On the other hand, our son is living much worse having lost his job and his accommodation. It's hard at the moment for him to stay positive.

You think what’s happening in Iran is related to the increase of steak price prices where you are?

Generally things are expensive during times of war. But I'm no economist.

Prices certainly aren't going down. There are a lot of people out there who are struggling. I don't have my husband's income anymore except for 1/2 his pension. I'm doing OK though.

I am glad you are doing OK. I think it is a rough time for Americans at an emotional level, as well as a financial level.

@TheHorse Yes it's very stressful for most everyone!!! Now we have to worry about a war. Now Trump has threatened Spain. What's that about?

Why did the steak go up? Is it because cooking oil also increased?

The Strait of Hormuz is closed. Not only Oil but a lot of other Products move through that zone. Also Houthis seem to have blocked a part of Red Sea. That means lesser shipments or longer routes. That could be one of the reasons. Air spaces have been closed in most of the Middle East. It is bound to cause a cascading effect all over the world. I think Trump should provide $1000 each to each American from his own pockets to verify his MAGA credentials !

I’ve never known any price go down ! Items in shops that used to go up by a penny or two occasionally, are now going up 20p or 30p almost every week.

I have no idea if there are cows in Iran. 33$ for a pound of steak is so expensive. Surely the prices of petrol is expensive than last week before the war in the Middle East.
