A very strange thing I wasn't going to write about

But hey it is after 2am, I'm all stressed out, and I can't sleep so here goes. I've written about being rushed to the ER from work on Monday morning. I was vomiting, had diarrhea, was weak, could barely walk, and was shaking. The supervisor and an assistant principal insisted that I go and I was even taken out of the building in a wheelchair. To be fair--they were correct and I needed to go there. My balance is not good on a "good" day but it was pretty much non-existent that day. The principal texted my ex what was happening and he rushed to the hospital. Thank Darwin he did because I needed to hold his hand just to talk like 5 feet to the bathroom. A nurse made me use a walker and, well, I needed it. They even gave me a bright yellow wrist band that said "fall risk". Eventually I got a bed in a room. My ex noticed that they had differently colored lights on them. When whoever was in charge saw the yellow wristband the color on my bed turned from green to blue. (or vice versa) You know what that meant? We got a demo. If I was on the bed (or presumably anyone) and they got up while they were unattended (meaning they call for a nurse or tech) loud alarms went off to alert everyone. *I swear I am not making this up* How mortifying. It got to the point where I spent a day and a half just sitting at a table in the kitchen unless I had to use the bathroom or find something to eat. I felt bad having to summon otherwise busy people to come accompany me to the bathroom or to go the bed to take a nap. Of course sitting there had me stiffened up so my balance looked even worse when I did have to move. I sent a short video clip to my sister of what happened when I got up on my own. Her response was: "Hahaha. OMG! They lo jacked you????" I sent a picture of her response to my ex and told him that she thought it was hilarious. His response? "It is hilarious." So that's one part of why I'm stressed and desperate to get out of the hospital. This is insane.

My husband had a bed alarm because he was a fall risk; but not before he fell and broke his hip. I blame the rehab place for that. I hope you get to go home soon.

When my Dad was hospitalized about 7 months before he passed away, I personally told the nursing staff that he would get up, during the course of the night, sometimes confused, and suggested a bed alarm. There just wasn't a good enough nurse per patient ratio to give me the peace of mind that should he get out of bed, they would find him or if he fell, they would find him before he laid there and suffered. I have to say that, I am not comparing you to him, only the requirement for such an alarm. I hope that they remove the alarm for you during the day as that would help you immensely.

It is embarrassing, I am sure, but it is supposed to be for your safety. Funny how they have that all programmed into the bed.

Uhm... Would you like to know how to disable that alarm system? You could get out of bed, take video of you walking around the room without the alarm going off and then get right back in the bed and send that to your sister. I probably shouldn't but if you want to play a prank, I'll tell you.

To me it sounds like the hospital staff was uber worried about your falling and getting into worse trouble.
