The first one hit last night.

So, last night a large swath of Oklahoma was under a tornado warning. Yep, tornado season has started (although we had one in December last year). Sadly, a mom and daughter got hit by the tornado last night while in their car. I hate when they hit at night. Seven touched down last night. You may wonder what to do if you’re in a car and a tornado is coming. Don’t try to outrun it. Get out of the car, and get in a ditch. Sure, if it comes with a flash flood you’re in trouble, but a ditch is better than staying in the car. Do not get under a bridge and go high up underneath it. It will suck you out. If at home, go to the lowest level of your home, get in the center of your home, or in the bathtub. Cover yourself with blankets, and a mattress if you can. Make preparations with bottles of water, dog food if needed, and things like that. I’m sure I’ve forgotten some things, and I’m sure a lot of you knew this information.

What a frightening experience for that mother and daughter. At least they were together during it, shame they were not in a safer place.

At least they went together, although that may not comfort their family.

@AmbiePam You choose those words wisely. I hope that through their grief they can feel what your words convey. They are eternally together now.

If you have a powerbank for your phone keep it charged. Stay away from windows.

Yeah, I have two and keep them charged. A lot of counties tonight are already in tornado warnings.

I’m terrified of tornadoes! Never was affected by one, but feel awful for that mom and daughter. They probably didn’t survive.

That's really good information even if it's unlikely that I'll need it. I hope you and yours stay safe - and everyone else too, of course.

I saw the mangled vehicle on the news. How terrible. We have a lot of tornadoes here at times and I know it’s a huge concern in your area. I am glad you are always aware of that.

Poor mother and daughter. Were they killed?. Thanks for the tornado info I didn't know all that. It's getting to be that time of the year, although doesn't usually happen here until April.

I remember hiding in the hallways as a kid with my mom and sister during warnings….while my dad snoozed away in their room. He’d go outside, look at the sky, and say, it ain’t going to get us. Then he’d go back to sleep.

We just stay in our rooms if a tornado is spotted here. It will circle around our city and hit the farms out away from us. The tornado that took out our power and internet last year was a fluke. The lines it took out were out in a valley below and to the West of us. It ripped some power poles right out of the ground, destroying the internet repeaters for the entire city. That was a lot of fun! I hope there won't be any damages from the storms tonight.

At least I don't have to worry about tornadoes, and I am hoping that the hurricane season will pass me by too, as it did last year. My anxiety cannot take much.

Is there usually a warning?

Sort of. A warning means there IS a tornado on the ground. A tornado watch means the possibilities of a tornado are good. Once a warning is issued all the sirens go off and you won’t find a soul outside their home (unless they are a storm chaser).

@AmbiePam Years ago we were in my mother in law's storm cellar after a tornado was spotted. We had just watched the movie Twister.

I had one daughter that lived in Marlow, OK and another in both Pope and Enid, MS. I hated this time of year since they had a lot of them. I went to both often but never was in a tornado while there.
