Howdy and hello! First, a Storm Center 60 update for our myLotters in Illinois, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, and Indiana: watch the weather the next couple of days. And now, back to our music. This one is fifty years old now. That’s hard to believe for me…but then my bones creak and remind me that it’s true.
Havana Daydreamin’ - Jimmy Buffett
I was just sitting here, listening to the song play while I was prepping the discussion. I got lost in the storyline. It’s a reminder of what a great songwriter Jimmy Buffett was.
The descriptions present Havana, the one that Hemingway loved and knew. The beauty (“the water so green and the air was so clean”), the smuggling (“sailing on a midnight boat, there were no questions asked”), and those coveted Cuban cigars (“ceiling fan stirs the air, cigar smoke does swirl”).
That’s what I love about music. I’ve never been to Cuba (I’ve been 90s miles away, though, on a sunset cruise in Key West), but Buffett took me there with this song.

Yup, love me some Jimmy.
When I lived in Hamilton, I went past a place where it was obviously inhabited by Parrot Heads... and parrots.

His music could always take you someplace warm, even in cold Ontario winters.

It seems like it’s always had an air of mystery about it. There’s that line in Godfather II where Hyman Roth tells Michael (set in 1958), “This country’s had rebels for the last 50 years. It’s in their blood.”

Me too. I’m worried about Marie Coyle and JJ and my friends in Chicago for tomorrow’s threat.

I am going to do everything I can to keep son and I safe if//when it hits. Supposed to not really arrive until evening tomorrow. The worst of it is supposed to be just a tiny bit north of my daughter's home (not far from the infamous Billy's!) and then it extends up to me and further north. I will have everything charged up and prepared!!

Oh, I know. Listening to albums I bought in the 70s just reminds me of why my bones are creaking.

Not surprised. More of a Parrothead classic.
