Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

I think it is a bigger deal in the US than in Ireland much like Cinco de Mayo is rather than that small area in Mexico. Here it is basically an excuse to wear green, drink lots of beer, and eat corned beef and cabbage. When I was a child I used to be mad that my birthday is March 16 rather than the 17th. Finally one year my mother said "what do you care? You're not Irish!" That stuck with me and I've never been annoyed about it again. When I was younger my cousins, ex, friends, and I would go over to the boardwalk for the parade. We never actually went to the parade and we would just go to the bar where my sister worked and get hammered. We all outgrew that eventually. These days I'll get a corned beef sandwich if I'm out on St. Patrick's Day but that's about it. Do you celebrate the holiday?

I am proud of my Irish heritage, but my Dad used to always tell us as children that everyone can be Irish on St. Patrick's Day, but we were Irish every day. Maybe that is why I do not celebrate. It could also be because of the stories passed down from the 5 generations ahead of me as to why we came from Ireland to Canada, and it was due to very hard times. They could only have a better life in Canada, it could not get worse.

My paternal grandfather was born in Ireland. So I have Irish in me all the time. I don't celebrate St Patrick's Day. Maybe it's because I have Irish in me and I'm always proud of my heritage.

I don’t, but as a child, we always wore green on the day. If you didn’t wear green, you got pinched. I don’t think you can get by with that in this day and age, but back then we did it.

We have celebrated in the past but didn't this year. There always used to be a St Patrick's Day cabaret when I was in my late teens/early 20s.

Well, if I'm going to the Centre on St Pat's day, I'd wear green, but the Centre is closed this week for March Break, so my light minty green robe will have to do.

Nope. Although I would really like it to be green outside instead of those traces of white from the sn*w that we had yesterday.

When I was growing up I always wore green to keep from being pinched. We would also eat corned beef , cabbage, potatoes and carrots. I have Irish from both of my parents.

Happy belated birthday. Bagpipers are raising the roof today in my downtown; they've invaded the Irish pub. St. Paddy drove the pagans out of Ireland.

Not our Patron Saint here in Italy, but I know that in Ireland is not a big thing as it is in the US. We celebrate St. Francis (our Patron Saint) and it's not a big celebration.
