I Feel Like I Cheated on Her

No, not my girlfriend, but my other love. Many of you are aware of how much I love Disney, and my obsession with their theme parks in Orlando. Well, this past weekend, we all decided to go to Epic Universe in Orlando to celebrate a couple of birthdays. Epic Universe is Universal Studios' newest theme park in Orlando, Florida, which now gives the studio three theme parks and one water park to rival Disney World's four theme parks and two water parks. Epic Universe has been considered a game-changer in the Orlando theme park market, and one that has left Disney scrambling to try and expand more to stay on top of the competition. We had a great time at the theme park, but the entire day I just felt a tiny pang of guilt in my heart. Like I was cheating on Disney. Later, towards the end of the evening when the theme park was closing, I mentioned it to the group (there were 8 of us total), and every one of them said they felt the same way. So much so, that we all hopped into our cars and drove over to Disney to close the night there (Epic Universe closed at 9pm, but Disney World was open until 11pm). We all laughed about how we thought we were doing Disney wrong by visiting a Universal theme park. Don't get me wrong, Epic Universe was, well--EPIC--but once we crossed that entry gate at Disney World we all felt like we were home. Are any of you so loyal to a brand that you feel guilty if you visit, purchase, use, or consume a competitor's product or service?

I love that you love Disney like that. And quite frankly, I think my sister feels the same when it comes to Disneyland. She likes both land and world, and has been to both several times, but Disneyland resonates with her. You two would get along so well if you got to talking. The only time I felt like I was cheating, and I know it’s silly, is when I went to a church service of another denomination than mine. I was kind of like, hmmm…I don’t know if I fit in here….my denomination doesn’t believe that…it was comical.

I’ve had that experience with churches before. I know exactly what you mean. Once, I went to a Catholic service with a friend of mine. I didn’t understand half the stuff they were doing during Mass.

There are brands that I never replace with any other. Bounty, Puffs (tissues), and Quilted Northern to name a few.

Bounty for sure on the paper towels. I like Quilted Northern for toilet paper, but I prefer Angel Soft more.

@lovebuglena For Mayo, I’ll eat any of them. But my first choice would be Duke’s Mayo.

@moffittjc For dish soap I only use Palmolive. Body wash only St Ives. And though I’ve tried other brands I am a Hellmann’s and Heinz person. Since Heinz is expensive, especially the simply one, I’m ok with other brands of ketchup so long as no high fructose corn syrup but mayo only Hellmann’s.

@rakski I just feel most comfortable there. Like it is home. I do consider it my "second" home. So, yes, I am very loyal to Disney.

I can't think of a brand that I'm quite so devoted to as you and your family seem to be to Disneyland. But it's all good. I'm sure there are many more like you.

I love how much you love Disney. Like you, I've always loved Disney. Grew up on it. Gonna keep on loving it. I still need to make a trip down. Although not sure right now is the best time. But it's on my bucket list to go back.

@moffittjc So probably best to wait a bit. Especially if there are some new rides being built.

Disney is undergoing a major transformation bright now to keep up with—and stay ahead of—Universal Studios, so if you wait a few years before you visit there will be a whole bunch of new rides and areas at all of Disney’s parks.

@dodo19 Yes, it may be best to wait. I would say 2028 is when a lot of the new stuff will be completed and open. Here's what's being added: Animal Kingdom: a new land, called Encanto Land. Two new rides being added, one is an Indiana Jones ride. The other is still a secret, but the show building is huge! Plus new restaurants, shops, and carousel for the little ones. Hollywood Studios: a new land, called Monsters Inc. Land. Two new rides being added, one is still a secret (most likely a show more than a ride), but the one that has everyone talking is the new roller coaster. It's going to be like in the Monsters, Inc. door factory in the movie, where you are lifted up on a "door" and then whisked away on a roller coaster ride. Magic Kingdom. two new lands being added, one is Cars Land, and the other is Villains Land. All rides are being kept secret at this time, but there is already a Cars Land at Disneyland in California, so everyone suspects it will be a similar setup in Disney World. Villains Land is going to be interesting. We already know there is going to be a Maleficent roller coaster, and they had already filed and received permits for construction, but then the new CEO of Disney took over and said it wasn't bold enough, so he scrapped everything and told the Imagineers to start over. They just filed new permits, and from the permits filed the show buildings for the rides are much bigger than what was approved under the original building permits. This new land is going to be a game-changer for Disney World. Disney has also been on a hotel building spree as well. The new Polynesian Tower opened at Magic Kingdom this past year, and they are getting close to finishing Lakeshore Lodge in Fort Wilderness, which is a monster of a resort. From the looks of it, it's probably going to be one of the biggest resorts at Disney World.

@moffittjc - Same as you, it was a great park to visit, but it cannot replace Disney. It's a totally different matter. I could go to the Disney parks every day, not to the others.

@LadyDuck I feel the same way. I could go to Disney every single day and never get tired of it. Other theme parks, I could go once and not have a desire to go back again for months or years.

Yes! A perfect sample where I work. We are all loyal to our company's product but then when we're out and can't find our product in some store because it's been sold out. We end up buying the competitors product. We might say this is good a like the taste of it but the guilt feeling can't escape. In the end we like our company's product since it has a lot of option compared to the competitors.
