Wow, two top ten hits in the same day? Can you stand it!!
The bigger question is, can you remember it? This was, after all, 40 years ago now. And it’s by a band that could have been on the 1976 and 1966 lists (if they’d released albums that year
) as well! Longevity! Here’s today’s song.
Your Wildest Dreams - Moody Blues
You know what I say every time the Moody Blues come up in conversation: my brother’s favorite band!!! I have to commend my brother for his outstanding taste.
The godfathers of prog rock! (And I much prefer what they had as prog rock over what it became later, as so well spoofed in National Lampoon’s “Art Rock Suite” on Goodbye Pop.) Their lyrics were more poetry or novels than songs (see: “Question” or “Nights in White Satin”), which was common then (see: “A Whiter Shade of Pale” by Procol Harum) but somehow fell by the wayside in the following decades (see: JudyEv’s comments about the lacking of lyrical depth for a lot of the songs used
).
Believe it or not, this was their second-biggest hit in the US (behind “Nights in White Satin,” which made it to #2 on the Billboard chart).
Sadly, there’s only one Moody left standing: songwriter Justin Hayward. But oh, what a long legacy of great music they gave us. And the fact that it took them as long as it did to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the black eye that institution has to carry forever.

@sallypup — it was the Moodies, overdubbed a number of times.

@FourWalls Who are the back up singers? The uncredited people sing wailing oh oh oh or whatever?

My favorites are “Question,” “Nights in White Satin,” and “I’m Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band.” And “The Story in Your Eyes,” a forgotten gem!

Shows you how young he was when he started…like Steve Winwood earlier this month.

Wow! Such a wonderful song.
Does not feels like it belongs to 1986.
I like the video work as well.
Also I think some of the styles followed in this video have been used in some or the other ways in songs in Bollywood movies.
In some ways the variety and class of songs that you share here has also inspired me to explore a wider variety of song genres.

I thank you for the very kind compliment about the music variety I use. I don’t do that intentionally, it’s just what I listen to.1 person likes this

Yes they did! The beauty of Hayward’s vocals on “Question” is amazing, even 55 years later!

Enjoy the 1976 top ten. You won’t know any of the 1986 songs.
