Happy Friday and do you have sconces?

Happy Happy Friday to my myLot friends! I will be making a hearty beef stew pre martini time for Sunday dinner when my granddaughter arrives. My brother is invited, too. My granddaughter has the most perfect sconces in her bathroom. I love the wallpaper, too. The wallpaper goes way up to a large skylight. I don’t have one sconce in Florida. However, I have them in almost every room in my house up north. I love how elegant, functional, or whimsical they can make any room look. What’s your take on sconces?

We had decorative sconces in Switzerland. We have them in our two bathrooms here.

We never thought of putting them in here when we renovated. Perhaps one day.

@DianneN We do not need them in the other rooms, we have floor lamps in the living room and in the dining room and nightstand table lamps in the bedroom. Floor lamps in the office room.

@LadyDuck We have large rooms with lamps and chandeliers, even in our long hallways. Our large family room actually has 2 table lamps, two sconces, a large chandelier, and multiple recessed ceiling lights. Our smaller sitting room or pink room has 4 lamps, a floor lamp for our reading chair, sconces on either side of the fireplace, and a built in wall unit with fairy lights and 12 battery powered candles. I won’t bother telling you about the other rooms, but I can assure you we are well lit, even in Florida. We are light crazy

I have a pretty night light in my upstairs bathroom. Otherwise I am not touching the plaster though it needs to be worked on.

@DianneN Eventually I need to find a worker who knows how to deal with plaster. Everything is drywall now.

@sallypup Yes, most home are drywall now. My brother has a stone house. When he did renovations a few years ago, it took three days to drill through the concrete with many broken drill bits. And that was just one hole.

I wouldn’t touch plaster either. A pretty nightlight sounds good enough to me.

We did at the last house my first wife and I owned. She loved that kind of stuff. I prefer ceiling lights without all the frippery.

I guess I love frippery. Hubs seems to like it, too.

@DianneN Uh huh... My first wife would have said I like it, too. I just didn't care enough to argue with her about it. As long as she was happy, I didn't have to listen to her griping.

@DaddyEvil My husband takes an interest in the house and shops with me for large purchases. He’s the one who found our new patio furniture, but came to me for approval

I love that sconce in your granddaughters bathroom and am really intrigued by her wallpaper. I used to have more sconces than I do now but I do have one on each side of a mirror in my entry way.

@DianneN since we were talking about sconces it made me think that I might look for some for my bedroom.

@Marilynda1225 The problem is that you would need an electrician to do the wiring.

I’m so happy you like them both. She loves anything to do with Paris. I never thought of putting them in here when we remodeled, but will definitely put some in next chance we get. Sconces make an elegant entry.

I've never really thought about them. I've admired them at times but I wouldn't want them. I'd never get around to dusting them.

Having one in a room feels like in fairytale like home. I like the wallpaper it's a map of what's in the whole town.

I’d love to live in their fairytale home. My son has a guest room with bathroom if we stay overnight. The wallpaper shows Paris. Oo-La-La!

@Jehanne My camera was old at the time, so the lighting wasn’t very good. The wallpaper also shows Notre Dame, Moulin Rouge, the Opera House, and other highlights of Paris. My granddaughter went to Paris with her other grammy for her 16th birthday but already had the wallpaper in her bathroom. I guess it’s more special to her now.

@DianneN no wonder the ladies in the wallpaper look fashionable. When you said Paris, I look again then there's the famous Eiffel Tower I haven't noticed at first.

That’s right! That’s why they have that candle look with a lightbulb now. I have one set of very old brass sconces in my pink room with pretty green shades.

I agree. We don’t have any here in Florida, because the thought never crossed my mind when we renovated our condo before moving in. I saw some Floridian looking sconces recently which would have been so perfect here.
