Constant Chatter

I’m sitting in my living room, and I turn off my TV. And all I hear is muffled voices. After five minutes of this, I turn my TV back on to drown out the muffled voices. Looking out my peephole, it’s visitors of the neighbor who lives across from me. It annoys me when people stand outside and talk for long periods of time, but especially when it isn’t my neighbor, but their friends. I mean, go inside the apartment and chatter. Do you know what I mean? They aren’t so loud I know what they are saying, but they are loud enough for a constant stream of noise. I sound like I’m getting old, don’t I?

I hear ya..where I used to live the neighbors were constantly hanging around outside. I hated it. They were always there watching you come and go. yakking, whatever, it was like you had no privacy. That is probably why I moved somewhere where no one was close by. More people live here now, which is fine, I don't have to see them if I don't want to..but the other place got on my nerves something awful. I am not that social. In the last place I couldn't look out my kitchen window without seeing them. When did they find time to work? It seemed like they were always outside!

I used to have one neighbor who kept his front door open all day long, and every time I’d step outside he’d be staring straight at me from his couch.

@AmbiePam I am glad you don't have that neighbor anymore. Kind of creepy.

I have a neighbor across the street who is LOUD. She's 82, drives all the time, and her car stereo is aways blaring. She loves her music! However, it's always rap music, which I truly do not like. When she gets home, she puts her car in the garage and shuts the door. Then this is the part I don't understand--she leaves the car stereo on, as loud as it will go. For at least an hour or two, so we get a concert. Several neighbors have called the police on her for noise before, I have not as they usually take care of it. One neighbor asked her if she was hard of hearing, she claims not to be. She is a very unusual 82 year old...and very loud! Luckily, she has a son in a town not far away and spends a lot of time there, so she isn't always home to give us a concert. When she's home, we know it!!

82! Her aim is to recapture her youth at other people's expense. Thankfully she is not there most of the time.

@Kandae11 I wouldn’t mind the music nearly as much if it wasn’t rap music. I don’t even consider rap as a type of music. It’s just too strange.

@AmbiePam I had to leave the library today due to people talking. And their conversation wasn’t even interesting.

Yep. That's another thing I resent about this place. It's rarely quiet. We're near a small airport and there are always planes going overhead. The school opposite is noisy but only for 20 minutes twice a day when parents pick up and drop off their kids.

It can definitely be annoying. What I also hate is when a car is idling for a long time, especially with the radio on.

They really weren’t. It’s just the sound echoes.

I can definitely understand what you mean. I don't necessarily want to hear people talk in the hall from inside my place.

If I hear any voice down below or outside I have to consider if I can still understand English being alone and in the quiet so long,

It's why I love being on a mountain away from neighbors. In the summer, people on the road above the mountain has visitors that ride their UTVs around and it gets noisy with that. Thankfully, it's not all the time.

The more we try to keep the noise out of the way, it happens the more we get distracted by it. The chatter can be short but not long enough to become a lasting nuisance to others.
